Okay, so I posted a thread yesterday, and today I got the RROD. I am sending it back, but have a couple of questions. Do I just send the console and not the cables and what not?

Also, I know this is a stupid question, but when I package the 360, do I put bubble wrap or that other stuff? Thanks for the help.

Just send the 360. Do not include the HD, wires, or controller (you will not get them back).

They used to send 'caskets' which were just a box with a plastic bag to slip the 360 in, and styrofoam to put on either end to cushion it. So package it something like that.

Thanks a lot, just hope I dont get the RROD with the repaired one as well. :)

For both my send-in's, they told me to remove your faceplate as well, as you could be receiving a refurbished console. I don't know if that's changed or not.

well I don't have like a custom faceplate or anything...just a normal white one, so does that matter?

Really? Will I need a receipt for when I got the system? B/c I have no idea where it is. Thanks for your help.

Every 360 has a 3 year warranty for RROD and E74. Just register it with Xbox.com and you should be good to go.

Yea, I had to send my system in twice. Each time I called support they sent a box to my house in a few days, then I sent it out and got it back within a week I think.

Thanks guys for the advice. It sucks my system broke, but its good that I am only two weeks away from an expired warranty. So if it was going to break, better now then two weeks from now.

I'm taking it to UPS Monday. It sucks that it broke now though since I'm on my two week break from classes. Summer classes just ended and Fall classes start in a few weeks.

Just make sure you dont pack the power brick along with the console when you send it back, I made that mistake once. Took me forever to get it back.

Make sure you JUST send the console in a box and nothing else. Anything you send besides the console you will not get back.

Also, be happy you have your warranty, the wait is worth it and, after all, it's free. It should take about 3-4 weeks before you see your xbox again from the time you send it.

A question,

I received a 360 as a gift a while ago (a year or so) and never registered it.

At this point, I'm scared of the RROD, and would like to register. If I already have an Xboxlive gold account, is my machine registered, or do I need to do something else as well?

I just want to make sure that if my machine dies, I don't have to pay to repair it when I could be getting it done for free.

I actually think the warranty is a lifetime warranty, about a month or two ago, I got my third RROD (which pissed me off), and went through the process of telling Microsoft it needed to be fixed. I was told my warranty was up, but still had the system fixed for free. Also to anyone that is shipping the system out, just ask the person at the UPS store to box it for you, don't bother trying to box it yourself. I think they've been dealing with this long enough, that they know exactly what to do.

The 360 has a 1 year general warranty, all 360s also have a 3 year warranty for the RROD and E74.

And the warrant is extended to whatever time you have left. So lets say you have a year left on the 3 year warranty for RROD, you get another year.

Well I got my e-mail that they fixed my xbox, so I should be getting it back in a week or so. Thanks again everyone for your help. The process wasn't nearly as painful as I thought it was going to be. Of course, other than not having my xbox for a few weeks.

Oh and I meant to mention this before. I actually have an Elite system. I got the Elite because I was told it has a lot less of a chance of getting the RROD than the regular versions. So the Elites are not immune to the dreaded RROD.

And in effort to prevent this from occurring again, is it better to stand the xbox up vertically or have it lay horizontally?

lay it horizontally...if it moves I believe you have a HUGE chance of getting the RROD. I also think you aren't supposed to have it on like carpet...have it on a surface like wood.

Yea i was surprised it was as easy and painless as it was. I got the RRoD like a week before Christmas, sent it to MS as was without a console for all of 2 weeks and this was DURING the Holidays. I was shocked.

I would keep it vertical. Better ventilation that way.
