What are some of the random things you've heard the general public say about Watchmen? For example, A Good friend of mine who's never read the comic thinks that Dr. Manhattan is somewhat like a Frankenstein Monster created to kill the heroes by an unknown bad guy not shown yet, I haven't corrected him because I feel the actual twist will be better that way. I know another guy who thought Watchmen is a Meet the Spartans type comedy play on Superheroes. I've also heard several people think it's some kind of Batman movie because of Nite Owl.

I've had a couple people I know comment on the trailers and say "it looks pretty good," to which I reply "You have no idea," and leave it at that. My friend mentioned the same thing in that the team apparently fights an unknown villain not yet shown in the trailers and I told them that the "Villain" is indeed shown to which he replied, "That big blue guy?"

I just think the fact that most people I know are at least talking about it (many of whom have no idea what a comic book or graphic novel even is it seems) is a good thing.

Most people I know think the movie looks like it's "******ed". :whatever: 'Especially that blue dude...is he, like, naked, hawhaw! Blue wang!1!1 Hawhaw!! Whoooo!!'

I am *sooo* worried that the theater is gonna be full of people (I use that term loosely) who act that way, expecting this movie to be a TDK like adventure. Oy..... That's why I would like to meet at least *one* other person from around here who is going to this thing and actually knows the source material. Not gonna happen, I'm afraid....:csad:

Yeah I don't have anybody else to watch it with. Most of my friends either don't care or thinks the movie looks stupid, but then again I don't think a lot of my friends could wrap their heads around the story. I remind them that if they're looking for a full-on action packed, special effects orgy, then this movie isn't really for them, it's more about the story and its message.

You'd probably have a better bet going to a Midnight showing, maybe have some other fans there.

I'd say most people don't know s**t about Watchmen so.. I'm getting ready to hear some really stupid s**t in the line

I also think the marketing has pretty much done all it can do. By now people are either going to go see it or not. The Character posters are so mysterious, in a way any one of them could be a "Villain" in the story, the quotes just push that idea farther. "This city is afriad of me..." "World Peace, there had to be a sacrifice" "Human existence..." they're all somewhat morbid.

My friends are fairly opened minded about the movie thus far.

I've only had one foolish fool at my job who tried to make fun of the Watchmen; then surprisingly enough, not only did I put the fool down, so did 2 (Count 'em two) people.

A good number of my friends, many of whom don't read comics, have read the graphic novel and are excited. The few who have not mostly like it. Though I have one friend who hates "unrealistic" movies says it looks "******ed. It looks like it'll just be like Spider-Man." I remind him he likes The Dark Knight, a movie he loves, is based on comics and he replies, "But that could really happen and is better than comic books!" I then resist the urge to hit him.

But otherwise people who haven't read it think the trailers look very cool.

I don't understand why they don't like unrealistic movies? Isn't movies a perfect platform for fantasies and things beyond our world? Isn't that the fun?

:applaudVery, very nice!

Southern West Virginia? I'm in Virginia, maybe I could take a train! :woot: lol

In all seriousness, it's the same way for me. I'm feeling kinda nervous being the only one I know who 'gets' Watchmen, frankly I feel really alien. I wonder if this is how Jon felt when he went to Mars.. that everyone around him was so obnoxiously misguided and foolish. :csad:

im quite concerned that these common misconceptions will take a toll on the film's box office.

I can't believe I didn't think of that lol. Now the only thing left is to find someone to drag along to go with me

Train? What about the 'Manhattan transfer'? (since you feel like Jon and all :oldrazz::oldrazz:)

I will probably go to the midnight showing, but I still would like to have a friend go with me. My mom went to see TDK, but she was already hyped for it. She's pretty openminded about Watchmen, which is good, but man I want to go with someone other than my mom! Since she doesn't seem as excited for this as I am. (And so I won't seem so lame! haha :yay:)

I think it'll be a hit. not a big hit, but a hit where people are just curious about it.

I think the word of mouth will be the one that will drive the movie forward. Even if they thought 'Watchmen' was suppose to be a 'stupid comic book movie' and it turns out to be a smart, violence deconstruction, it might win them over.

it will help the box office if the critics love the movie

yeah.

I can't wait for that, actually. I love hearing reactions from people.

yes, i think word of mouth is whats gonna sell this movie in the long run. i think opening weekend will be rather modest, but the following weeks will be steady.

Not to mention repeat viewings if this movie is what we hope it will be. Now, will it have TDK legs? I don't think so. But I think that it will either be consistent enough to last a long time or will do horribly and blow up. I highly doubt it will be the former though.

I think Watchmen will be 'the movie' that will surprise people this year.

I work at a movie theater so I hear tons of funny questions.

"Is this a comedy or something?"
"Those costumes look cheap."
"Mommy, look at her underwear."
"Oh! I wanna see that!" - "That's not for kids... that's for grownups." - "But mommy I wanna see it." - "Ok, fine."

it never ends

My friend Matt and I had this conversation a few days back. I let him borrow my GN. Didn't seem to get to it yet. But our conversation went something like this:

Matt: You know, the trailer says it the most celebrated GN of all time, but I've never even heard of it.
Me:That's because you're not really into comics.
Matt: Well excuse me if i don't sit around and read them all day. I have things to do.
Me: And I don't? When I have free time I read a bit instead of spending countless hours on the internets.
Matt: Whatever. It probably won't be better than TDK.
Me: We'll see. Do you know what it's even about?
Matt: Yeah.
Me: What's it about?
Matt: Okay, so, there's this team of superheroes called, uh, the Watchmen. And in the '50's the group breaks up, uh, and they lose their superpowers. The Blue guy was the leader and now he's trying to, uh, get them back together because Vietnam is happening. They all say "No" but then that old guy is thrown out a window so then they say, "Okay" because that was their friend. Now they have only a few hours to find the murderer because of that clock and Dick Nixon is probably behind it, I don't know.

Me: You and me are done....professionally.
