I got to thinking that The Punisher would work much better as a Cable Series rather than more movies. I don't mean Spike where they cut out excessive gore, I mean HBO, Showtime, Cinemax where they would be able to get away with everything.

I'm not sure how affordable it would be, I know it wouldn't have to be CGI intensive, yet there are a bunch of other cost to consider.

First of all, think of all the major shoot-outs the Punisher has been involved in within his comic series, that makes for some pretty pricey action sequences.

Think of what it would take to reproduce the Shower O' ****s massacre early in the MAX series?
A lot of actors, a lot of ballistics stuff and gore prosthetics, a helicopter and a big ass boat.

They would really have to tone down the Punisher, have him be involved in less ambitious take-outs... This could work, and could be interesting as it would end up focusing more on characters I suppose, and if we had good writing, good casting, and good directing we could have something memorable.

But we would still probably end up with a Punisher involved in less action then we'd like to see.

It's cable so I would think that it wouldn't be rated PG-13 as it can definetly be rated R, and not every episode would be a gorefest otherwise it would take away from the times that it does happen. Choppers don't need to be seen in every episode so I don't think that would be a huge cost there either.

With the success of cable shows now a days, I don't think it would be out of the picture at all.

I haven't watched Rome yet, actually, season 1 is on its way.
How was that budget wise, and did it come off looking good?

Oh, and I wasn't saying that it wouldn't be R, I just had my doubt that they could make as prolific as he is in the comics.
But then again, violent, action paced cable shows have done well... And if they got a story to carry them they well flourish.
I'd love to see this done, so long as it isn't a piece of trash like that Blade show I forced myself to sit through once.

The blade series wasn't bad for me, it just didn't have snipes in it, thats all.

Punisher on cable. Awesome. Could be the greatest comic related show ever if done in the style of the MAX series. Dark, gritty and balls to the wall.

I thought Sticky Fingaz did fairly well. He didn't have the presence Snipes has but I think in time he would've really developed well into the character. Cancellation however, has eradicated any chance of us ever knowing.

Very true.

Seeing how Ray Stevenson had already worked on a TV series for HBO, I don't see why he wouldn't agree to doing a Punisher television series for HBO also.

The hell with sequels that won't make any money, put on an HBO show with product placement galore like The Sopranos!
