Summit Entertainment, Icon Prods. and Infinity Features have greenlit thriller "Push," to be directed by Paul McGuigan and starring Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Camilla Belle and Djimon Hounsou, reports Variety.
Summit will finance and distribute the pic in North America as well as in a majority of territories around the globe. Icon will co-finance the film and distribute in the U.K., Australia/New Zealand and sell the film rights in Asia and South Africa.

"Push" centers on a group of young American ex-pats with telekinetic and clairvoyant abilities who hide from a U.S. government agency in Hong Kong and band together to try to escape the control of the division. The film is written by David Bourla and is being produced by Infinity's William Vince and Icon's Bruce Davey.
Good cast and interesting concept.

For some reason this is giving me a Firestarter/Scanners vibe. Could be pretty cool.

I'd forgotten about this movie, the poster is kinda vague.

I like the director, I saw a few behind the scenes shots nothing spectacular.

Plot Details for McGuigan's Push

Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin) directs Push, Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Camilla Belle, Djimon Hounsou, Maggie Siff and Scott Michael Campbell:

"Push" is a sci-fi thriller that takes us into the secret world of psychic espionage. Our hero is Nick Gant (Chris Evans), a young man whose father was genetically altered to be the perfect government assassin. After the brutal murder of his father, Nick swears revenge on the agency that created him.

Hidden in the underworld of Hong Kong, Nick assembles a group of rogue psychics to defeat Division, the covert agency responsible for creating and experimenting with psychic drugs for decades.

Nick teams up with Cassie Holmes, a thirteen-year-old girl who can see the future, to track down a missing girl and a stolen suitcase that could potentionally bring the downfall of Division — the key to their mutual revenge. Combining their skills, they outwit assassins and learn about Division's latest secret weapon — a powerful and new experimental drug called R16, which could shift the tides of psychic warfare.

Push opens in theaters on February 6, 2009

SDCC 08: Knowing When to Push
Summit presents footage from their upcoming sci-fi thrillers.
by Jim Vejvoda

US, July 24, 2008 - IGN Movies editor-in-chief Eric Moro moderated the Summit Pictures presentation today at San Diego Comic-Con, where fans got to see exclusive footage from their upcoming sci-fi thrillers Knowing and Push. Summit screened never-before-seen footage from the two movies before the panel was opened up to take questions from fans.

Stars Chris Evans, Djimon Hounsou, Camilla Belle and director Paul McGuigan were on the panel for Push, and presented exclusive footage from the movie, which opens in February 2009. Push is the story of some American agents with telekinetic and clairvoyant skills who have taken refuge in Beijing, China, to escape the clutches of US intelligence services. To stay free forever, however, they must undertake one last mission.

The opening credits of Push were shown, which recounts how the Nazis' experiments into psychic warfare beget an ongoing persecution of those with psychic abilities by government agencies. Dakota Fanning, who also stars in the film, narrates the titles sequence, which is comprised primarily of vintage newsreel footage of government experiments, warfare and civil unrest.

Hounsou spoke about his role as federal agent Carver who is out to hunt down the psychics. A scene was shown where Carver uses his ability to push memories onto people to make a man shoot himself. Belle's character Kira is, like Carver, a "pusher" who can push memories onto other people. She is the only survivor of a special drug that the government agency The Division has been using on psychics. Evans plays Nick Gant, a telekinetic (or "mover") gambler who has taken refuge in Hong Kong.

The next scene showed Evans and Fanning, who plays a "watcher" named Cassie, in a fish market in Hong Kong where they are confronted by "bleeders," a band of local super-powered baddies. Two of them have Banshee-like sonic powers that they use to shatter a multitude of fish tanks in order to try and stop the fleeing Nick and Cassie. Both of them use their powers -- which they have not quite mastered -- in order to escape.

During the Q&A, McGuigan and Evans explained that there are other super-powered people including sniffers (who can sniff a glass and find out the history of the person who just used it), wipers (who can wipe your memory), and shadows (who can cloak a person). All the panelists cited the script as the reason why they signed on.

Doesn't look bad. Reminds me of Jumper. Can't wait to see a trailer.

Fanning looks totally different than the last time i saw her in anything. She looks like shes on her way to becoming a full blown hottie in a couple of years of course

Sounds pretty cool, Chris looks pretty cute. But it does sound an aweful like Heroes.

Edit;

I'll give it a chance, hopefully its a good film.

Fanning looking a little skimpy... what is she 13? 14?

Ah, it's fine. She's looks like the third Olsen sibling. The one not on cocaine twice a day. Hopefully she doesn't turn out ugly like those two.

Cool interview. Sad that you can really tell he wasn't happy with the way the F4 films turned out.
Which is something he oughta be gratful for since their the basic thing that put him on the map to the general public.
