Putting an Alternate OS on an iPod

I was listening to a podcast and they had a guy talking about Rockbox.

Rockbox is basically an alternate user interface for mp3 players.

Its pretty cool, I have two iPods, and may do it on my smaller one.
What do you guys think?
 
Seems pretty awesome! I have an old iPod Nano (first gen) laying around. I may try it just for the heck of it.
 
All I've heard is that it drains your battery faster. You can read some comments made by people who've tried it here:

Actually that is not true.
The NEWest items that just got a version on it, may drains it faster...
But the platforms which they have had for awhile are actually better...they have been tweaking code continuously and in some cases its better.

From what I have read, on the newer platforms...you may be a 10% to 20% less than before (because they have not had time to trully tweak the code)
but some others, the platforms that are the oldest in their support model, they tend to get a better % than the original manufacturer, up to 10% or so...
