How long before this ability gets "accidentally" transferred to a German Priest thus turning him blue and furry in the process?

I still doubt we'll ever transport people. Isn't it thought actual teleportation kills the original and makes an exact copy at the other end?

That's what I've heard said but I don't know how you would go about proving that one way or the other.

Well, it takes courage to climb into that machine, not knowing, if you'll be the man in the box, or the prestige.

If it's an exact copy, so long as your memories/experiences come with, what difference does it make?

I think this stems from the same quantum entanglement theory that freaked Einstein out.

But I can't speak much more on the subject, and I'll defer to the expert:

Because YOU who steps into the machine will be dead. It won't make a difference to other people or the version of you that steps out of the machine on the other side, but you, the original, will cease to exist.

If it is, as was said - "an exact copy" .. that according to you "won't make a difference to other people or the version of you that steps out".
If your memories/experiences all come with, what difference does it make?

Unless you and TheDreamMaster are saying the version is not and exact copy, and will make a difference to you and everyone?

But you are not saying that.[IMG]

I figure it'd matter to you if you died. I mean yes a version of you comes out the other side, but technically you cease to live. So I'd figure living would still matter to you, even if everyone else still got you.

    No, you continue to live.
Your memories/experiences all come with, they said it's "an exact copy" ... that "won't make a difference to other people or the version of you that steps out".

An exact copy with your memories still means you will have died. That would matter to me.

Like I said before I'm not sure how it would be proven though.

I believe what they are getting at, Mondragon, is kind of like if you return your laptop for a new one, back it up before hand, and reload everything onto the new one. It looks the same, acts the same, has the same memory, but it's not the same.

By the fact that you're still alive.

Let's put it this way, we've got teleporters, the Earth is about to get nuked out of existence, you can stay here or we can teleport you somewhere safe. Here's the working description we are talking about.

It shouldn't make a difference if you really think they are both death, but which one will you choose, "die" on Earth, or through the teleporter? [IMG]

Even if the copy is an exact replica of you, right down to the last memory, it is still a replica.

You, the original, will cease to exist.

That's not you though. Not you the person who was born, and lived X amount of years.

It's simply a copy. So, if you want a copy of you to survive the war, great. But the original is lost.

It's an exact replica, what's the difference?

It's an exact copy, what's the difference?

You'd stay to get nuked on Earth because of a supposed difference that you can't pinpoint or describe, that "won't make a difference to other people or the version of you that steps out".?

You'd all probably kill to get in that teleporter, why"? To continue to exist, ie to continue live!:oldrazz:
