Rewatched BB last night and a certain scene stood out.

How was Bruce wrong when he told Rachael that the legal system was broken? The fact is they are letting go a murderer just to get at Falcone. Bruce's parents never received the justice through the legal system. Personally, outside the Batman code, the guy had every right to kill chill.

And just to clarify, Bruce threw the gun away because of Rachael stating his father would be ashamed that he was resort to murder himself?

Yes.

"an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind".

Obviously letting someone [a murderer] like Chill out of jail seems counter-intuitive to the pursuit of justice at first, but Falcone is so much more dangerous to the world than Chill at this point. Sure, Chill only served part of his intended sentence, but once out he still must live with the guilt of what he did for the rest of his life. He would otherwise be in there for life anyway; if the only way to get him to finger Falcone (pause) is to cut him a deal, then that's what must be done. Putting a crime boss like Falcone behind bars does alot more than leaving a low level thug like Chill in them.

Hmm... maybe Bruce started understanding the greater good in it. Maybe realizing Falcone creates more Joe Chills like Rachael said. interesting.

But I think knowing that Chill is dead helped that clarity. I think it Chill wasn't killed by Falcone and was living a free life, Bruce would have a hard time coming to that realization.

Maybe it's my personal view, but if I honestly came face to face with the murdered of my parents who was let free, I highly doubt he'd come out alive.

Bruce sees justice in terms of black and white. A criminal is a criminal is a criminal. They're the bad guys, he's the upstanding citizen. It's not until Bruce becomes a criminal that he starts to truly see what Rachel knew all along. There are gray areas in life. Just because this man murdered someone, doesn't mean he should get life. Look at the facts: Chill didn't walk into that alley with intent to kill, nor could it be proven if he had. He was pushed into that situation by the depression. Now, clearly he shot both victims with murderous or harmful intent, but it wasn't planned out. As far as Rachel's POV on all this, she probably shares feelings with Dr. Horrible. Keeping Chill in jail when he can oust Falcone is "treating a symptom. And the disease rages on through the human race. The fish rots from the head, as they say, so my thinking is just cut off the head." Or something like that. My 2c.

Yeah. I also thought it set up the fact that Batman is supposed to hate guns. Which is a staple of the character in the comics IIRC.
