Legend of Zelda R.I.P. - Zelda:TP for GC

We are gathered here today to mourn the loss of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Nintendo Gamecube, we hardly knew ye.

Joystiq has confirmed with numerous Gamestop and EB Games retailers that the Gamecube version of the newest Zelda offering has been removed from their computer system. Their websites have also been updated to reflect the change. We have yet to receive any official word from Nintendo, but all signs point to this as a done deal.

Get out the pine box and some nails, prepare to bury your Gamecube. It's over. The Gamecube is dead, long live the Wii.

Unless -- Nintendo announces they'll offer Zelda:TP from their online outlet like they will in Japan.

I count (officials and not ports) a few more than that: The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2, Resident Evil remake (better version)....AND the biggest of 'em all, Super Smash Bros. Melee (in my opinion the best multi-player ever).

Sure overall, that is DWARFED in comparison to the offers on PS2 for exclusivity and to a lesser extent by Xbox, but the Gamecube had more than "just one good game." That's not mentioning ports, which I often times felt more comfortable playing on the GC than the other two systems (though I still prefer PS2 over Gamecube).


Anyway, this is sad news. I had planned (and reserved) to get the Wii version anyway, but at the pitt of my stomach I felt the controls would probably be better on the Gamecube and I could go get a Gamecube copy instead of the Wii version was iffy.

Oh well, just more incentive to have the Wii I guess then.

Miyamoto himself said that he can't go back to playing the GC version because the Wii version is that much better. Not saying that he's right, but I think he is sincere. Matt from IGN also reported the same. At the very least, give it a chance.

The Wii IS NOT A GIMMECK. Hell, the PS3 liked the idea so much, they STOLE it while in development stage. If you wnat the deintion of TACKED ON look no further than the "tilt feature" of the horribly archaic (as in iti s the same controller three generations in a row, still relying on the D-Pad to take emphasis over the analog stick, my only gripe about the superior PS2 of this last generation) "Six-axis" controller.

As for the game being ported to Wii. I dunno. While part of me doesn't like it and is a bit worried, Nintendo has been working on this version for over a year and when the creator says it is superior (when he surely doesn't have to as he pretty much is what makes Nitnendo run anymore, at least until the Wii makes up for the Gamecube) I'll put some faith in it.

At the very least give it a chance though.
