Rachel McAdams has been wanting to jump on the superhero movie bandwagon for a while now, having auditioned for Batman Begins, Iron Man and even Fantastic Four. But even though she hasn’t quite made it, she is still determined to bag herself a superhero role.“I would love to play a female superhero,” she exclaimed. “It’s all sort of circumstantial and depends on the part and what comes up when and what you are doing in your life. But I do love graphic novels and I just think it’s just an exciting thing happening. Some of them are so beautiful.”So what does Rachel have her eye on? Most of the high profile comic book characters have already been brought onto the big screen, so it seems she may be going after something less well know. She told MTV Movies Blog:
“I just read this book ‘Black Orchid’ and it’s a really interesting character,” the actress said. “She’s a superhero that’s a flower. I don’t know if that would work or the audiences would be interested in that, but she was kind of cool.”Having done a bit of research on good old Wikipedia, it sounds like an interesting concept. However, as we have seen in the past with films like Ultraviolet, Catwoman, Elektra and Aeon Flux, movies with female superheroes don’t turn out that well. However, that is mainly due to the creative team behind it. If they get people behind the camera who know what they are doing, then things could get interesting.
Not just a flower, but a plant/human hybrid able to alter her appearance and voice, regenerate — even fly. And one that, although relatively unheard of, comes with a pretty recognizable comic pedigree, McAdams reminded.
“I like all the Neil Gaiman stuff. It’s great,” McAdams said of the comics god who reinvented the character with a limited series run in 1988. “I think it’s really visually so dynamic and would work really well.”
