Racists freak out over muslim Batman

I know I said that I wouldn't come back here, but...

Well, obviously not, but white people hate for the stupidest reasons! LOL.

So, let me get this straight: hating someone for having black skin = stupid reason, but hating someone for having white skin = not stupid?

You'd be surprised...

I used to think similarly, but there's those kinds of people in every race..

It's just "white" people generally live in stronger media outlet countries, so we hear about it a lot more.

But on my personal opinion, I think is a great idea for the france batman and has potential to carry a story where he would have to stop muslims from doing something wrong just as much as he would have to stop the frenchies!

Both sides have wrongs being done, and it'd be nice to see the minority spawn the hero first!

Hold on hold on. I read the detective annual and listen I have mixed feelings about Nightrunner first off he belongs to a Socialistic Anarchist trance music group that follows a woman who preaches heavily on outing the rich and moving towards everyone being equal...these subjects which I believe contradict everything that Batman believes...Now why Morrison thought Batman would want to recruit some one with these views is beyond me.

And heres the deal equality sounds good when you say it fast, but think it through, their not talking about Bruce Wayne Equality. Their equality is not rich more like studio apartment with a dead end job equality...

Batman is about the right to be unequal, not controlled, able to make your own decisions...CHANGING THIS WORLD. If were all equal there is no room to strive for better to create or dream.

Nightrunner could be good if Batman removes all the brain washing Bilal Asselah has received from his youth.

I haven't read the issue, but I can echo that Morrison certainly seems to be out of touch with the way Bruce's brain gears turn.

He does the character's dialogue style very well though, to his credit. Most of the time.

Morrison didn't write any of the nightrunner stuff.

I find it incredible at times how people are so quick to jump on Grant that they have no problem spreading misinformation.

I'm glad you told me that! Thanks, Micah. Maybe I've become too complacent in trusting critics here due to all the good news that's been rolling in lately.

Also, obviously, cause I haven't seen or read the issue myself yet. The assumption was easy to make.

Luckily we've also got people like the above to step up to that.

Ah crap my bad your right but you know what that makes it even worse because now we have a heavily Morrison riddled story that has been tarnished by a writer that has no grasp on what is really going on in Batmans "world"

I like the Nightrunner character I think he's cool he certainly looks cool, like a Nightwing of Paris BUT...

You can't have someone be Batman who has been taught since birth that the white man/rich/police/America/France/Christian is to blaim for you being oppressed. He also can't be Batman if for the last 6 years of his life he's been listening to a politcally charged woman preach on "take from the rich" and "destroy the system" (ahem which is France...)

Now I agree that the Muslims and French need a Savior and I believe that Nightrunner can Unite the Muslim community with the French community as long as Batman serves and teaches this Kid the RIGHT WAY TO THINK...

^Shut up. Bruce Wayne has been repurposing his wealth for ages to help the disenfranchised and his whole mission is for PEOPLE not for the system. Heck, the very fact of Batman, the very necessity of Batman in Gotham and now the rest of the world, means that Bruce Wayne/Batman has lost faith in all the systems to some extent. Sure, criminals and madmen will be apprehended and put through the system but there's a tacit recognition there that the system has failed and will continue to fail. If the system actually worked then none of the Rogues Gallery would have been a problem after Batman collared them the first time.

As a Muslim American, I'm sick of the BS Islamophobia. Also, I think the trend to say "how is a religion a race" misses the mark in a very important way. Now, I'm a convert to Islam and of European ancestry. However, in the minds of most people Muslim=Arab/Pakistani/brown. So when there is an irrational fear and hatred of Muslims it is usually closely tied with an irrational fear and/or hatred of non-white peoples from a particular region of the world.

Also, where is the "savior" crap coming from? Is this actually in the comic? I haven't read the Batman annual yet... though I did read the Detective annual.

*EDIT* Having read the book, I can honestly say that "bat-lad" is way off the mark about Bilal Asselah, the Batman of Paris. The kid's mother was stoked that he got a job from Bruce Wayne and was proud of him for having stayed out of the streets and out of the violence. Read the frakking book before you make your comments.

Get over it. I have Muslim friends who follow Islam & muslim friends who are christian. We all need to get over it, and keep our religious views to ourselves. You're (not you Dave, I mean any mainstream religion) likely following rites that were established by some self professed pious loon, who based said rituals on nothing more than tradition, and imagination. It's a form of control. I am a firm believer that religion is a form of control. Don't misunderstand me, I'm not talking about God.

As far as the islamaphobia, I think that partly comes from the fact that there's always a few in every religion that ruin it for the "rest of us" (that is the non-violent followers of any religion). It's been that way throughout history. There are nutters that give Christianity a bad name... The other part of the phobia comes from people that are just, simply, ignorant. If you are determined to go through life with a chip on your shoulder when it comes to your religion, you're going to have a very difficult time.

PS... I was having a "religious" discussion at work a few days ago Dave so I'm still hot on that topic... haha... that wasn't directed at you persay... My mother is a staunch non-denominational Christian and would fit into that "islamphobia" category you described. I'm tired of people not tolerating one another.

Get over it? That's an intelligent response...

I don't really give a damn what your views are regarding religion as a "form of control," not at all useful or applicable to the topic at hand. Also, you can't have "Muslim" friends who are "Christian." That's a logical impossibility. If they are Christian then they are, by definition, no longer Muslims.

I'll "get over it" when right wing nuts stop protesting my right to build a house of worship on property that I own, or when I can pray in public or at the airport waiting for a flight without having to fear some paranoid turd suspecting me of being a terrorist and getting me kicked off my flight.

And I don't have a chip on my shoulder. I'd just rather not be in the one group of people that it's socially acceptable to stereotype, malign and suspect simply because of my religious preference. It's not just the right wing that have a hard-on for Islamophobia, I've seen it come from so-called liberals and atheists.

Being sensitive about your religion is just as bad as these folks who are upset over "Muslim Batman(s)"

I never expected you to give a damn... But from what I read its likely religion is behind the original topic... the "racists" who freak out over Muslim Batman. I'm talking about Muslims (raised as followers of Islam) and that have converted to Christianity. Just like you converted to Islam.

I think public worship should be banned. It causes nothing but grief. In your own home or in a designated place of worship? No one can argue with that.

I wasn't addressing you directly Dave, I mean religious people in general... I think I made that clear in the first post when I said "not you Dave"...

I was writing my response when you posted your additional response.

Public worship shouldn't be a problem. So long as I am just doing my thing, making my prayers in a park or a train station or an airport isn't any different than someone doing a sun salutation or calisthenics in said places.

I would agree with you on some level... but to me public worship is like smoking, or breast feeding your baby; It bothers nearly everyone.

This is partly true. Like public smoking or public breast feeding, public worship does bother people; specifically immature people who should mind their own business.

Well you also have a point there. I'm not saying it bothers me... But I think it's best that it doesn't happen.

Listen dude I understand where your coming from but you have to understand this...Christianity has been weeded out by everyone, you can't pray over your meal in school heck durring Christmas time their was not one Christian related theme in the school only other religions...EVEN COMICS now have weeded it out...hence we have a Muslim Batman...

And about your whole worshiping in your home thing...don't get confused about what Feisal Abdul Rauf is trying to do with the Mosque next to the twin towers...That dude was caught on tape burning an American flag for Gods sake...

Oh boy....

I can see you have a shining intellect and sre worth talking to. Goodbye.

I'm just glad they finally got rid of the clichéed view of Paris as a city full of overweight beret-wearing, baguette-carrying white people who can see the Eiffel Tower everytime they look up no matter where they're standing in the city.

This is what France, and most countries around the world, look like nowadays. Everyone should just grow the hell up and get over it. Xenophobia sucks.
