Fox, Winter renew prod'n deal
By Nicole Sperling

Dec 8, 2006

20th Century Fox has renewed Ralph Winter's production deal into 2008. The first-look deal began in July 2001, after the producer completed the original "X-Men" for the studio.

The native Californian is in production on Fox's sequel to "Fantastic Four" with director Tim Story. The film, "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," is slated for a June release.

Winter has been a part of Fox's successful run of science-fiction films including all three of the "X-Men" films, which have grossed more than $600 million in domestic boxoffice; 2001's "Planet of the Apes" remake; and last year's "Fantastic Four," which collected about $155 million domestically.

Before Fox, Winter was at the Walt Disney Co., where he produced the remake of "Mighty Joe Young" and "Inspector Gadget." His production credits include the indie film "Hackers," "Hocus Pocus" and "The Puppet Masters." His television producing credits include episodes of "Happy Days," "Laverne & Shirley" and "Mork & Mindy."

Winter is a graduate of UC Berkeley, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in history.

I'm happy for him. Cool.

^ Maybe to you but the bad news for the rest of us is the unending whining from self important militant comic book fans who cry when a 100 million dollar film isn't made specifically for their group of 12 friends.

Or when we just dont LOVE everything Marvel makes just because we have shares in them and we arent Marvel puppets.

I bought shares in Marvel because I love their product not vice versa. Only a complete idiot would do it any other way. No offense.

Okasy at first the X-Men movies turned out good because Fox didn't give a **** about the first one and very little about the second (they tried to kill the first) so Bryan Singer could do a lot of what he wanted if he fought FOR EVERYTHING along the way.

Then they ahd the potential to make a good DD movie but ****ed it up by cutting it in the knees in the pre-production process and castrating it in post-production (the director's cut is a shadow of what it could've been, but better).

Then in the timeline of THREE YEARS, they managed to **** up and ruin Elektra, Fantastic Four and the biggest crime of all, ruining what was already golden with the X-Men franchise.

And now Marvel, the greedy bastard they are in hopes of mooching off a FF3 (even though all signs showing FF2 to be the bomb of next summer) have given these ass clowns the rights to **** up X-Men and FF even more.

Terrific. I thinki we all just need to pray to God that Spider-Man ended up at Columbia/Sony instead of the ****hole that is 20th Century Fox. How X2 was so good given Tom Rothman and his procedures is beyond me. Therse guys only care about the bottom dollar as everything from their treatment of Bryan Singer to Jay Roach to even RIDLEY ****ING SCOTT show though.

Exactly, couldnt have said it better myself, it just proves it even more with Eragon, they have given a movie based on 730 page book about a 105 mins running time. How ****ing stupid can you get!

Oh X3, the "climax," the "epic finale" that tells the largest and most powerful X-Men story of all, the Dark Phenoex Saga....let's tell it in 90 some minutes.

On top of that make the saga a subplot and just pretty much **** up everything else the first two did right.

Did you read MSJ's interview with the Hype on the front page for Ghost Rider? I honestly don't think he is that good a filmmaker and focuses too much on visuals and not enough on depth, but what he said about Fox was spot on. As I said just thank God that Spidey ended up at Sony instead of Fox.

I mean look at Kingdom of Heaven. The best ancient world epic since Gladiator potentially and they demand it be cut to 2:15! The outrage. It was a boring confusing action movie. But if you see the director's cut, which is 3:10, you get A LOT OF CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT and plot development so that everything (for the most aprt) is paced well. While some scenes still don't gel well (the ship wreck) and maybe one or two should have stayed removed, it is a far deeper and more entertaining movie that is a fascinating drama instead of a boring action flick.

Fox only cares about the bottom dollar. If they **** Ridley Scott over, you can bet your ass they'll do it to MSJ or the X-Men and Fantastic Four ffranchises. In fact they already have, but because Marvel are greedy bastards, they'll let the properties stay at Fox (even though outside of a Wolverine movie, they'll doing nothing with the X-property and FF is such a joke anyway).

Oh well.

I know, i honestly hope that Fox never makes a movie ever again, AVP, FF, X3 and by the looks of things Eragon have been ruined when could have been spectacular movies under a different studio.

that is funny. but guy's gotta point. All the Xfilms are trash. X2&3 was fun, fine, but still trash.

^ Not to me. They're fun films not trash. Look up trash in the dictionary and you'll see a pic of McG or Uwe.
