Okay lets talk about the first one, the one that started the eighties action hero mania. Many have said its just another action movie and have actually underrated it, which is I think a travesty to say the least. I always though of the first rambo as an all american classic movie wether people think so or not. Not only did it defined a new class of cinematic action hero, atleast for me, apart from that it gave a clear social critique, it was a psychological journey, dressed as an action film. It underlined the discrimination and mistreat that many vietnam soldiers suffered, and it showed how many in society viewed the men that came back from certain hell, just to come to another. Other films showed what soldiers suffered in battle, but this movie showed the aftermath, and this time from one man's point of view. The action in this served the story perfectly it had the right amount in the right places. Without outdoing itself and transforming it into a mindless action romp. I think this is one of the few action films that let the story and characterization get the front seat and used the action as a means to demonstrate the real violence which was being done psychologicaly more than physically to our main character and protagonist.

I honestly can say that I consider this movie not a great action movie but a great movie in all departments. The credit also goes to the great Brian dennehy and the late Richard crenna both did outstanding and believable performances.

What do you say guys? is there some love for the old rambo the original?

No. I consider it stupid. I feel the same way about Rocky. I can't take Stalone seriously.

Well I understand I couldn't either I still can't in many movies but in this one he he's performance is great. I think youre biased against stallone but to its own. When I see a movie I don't see th actor but the character he's playing no matter how much I hate the actor I just ignore that when I see a movie. If you know what I mean.

First Blood is a terrific movie. The second one is nothing but action, but I still enjoy it immensely. Not many people know the second one was written by James Cameron. The third one is pretty bad IMO. They tried to make it epic, but at the same time, action-y like the second one, but it came off as nothing more than a glorified b-movie.

The Goldsmith score for all three are TERRIFIC, especially for part II. Any film score enthusiast needs all three scores. Truly great scores that are better than the movies, IMO. No Crenna or Goldsmith is but two reasons the fourth Rambo will probably fail. :csad:

Yes, the best action franchise ever.
First Blood offers the most sympathetic hero ever in an action film and remains interesting throughout even though he never (deliberatey) kills one person.
First Blood II is easily one of the most purely entertaining action films ever made, with the best action score I've ever heard. I've never been more invested in the ass-kicking during an action film than I was during the third act after Co died.
Rambo III is the weakest, but that only shows how good these films are. The scale was phenominal for the time, and I genuinally cared about the people Afghans. They spent about 45 minutes building up to the first major action set-piece, and I was never bored.

for the love of god make a post that makes you look partially intelligent.

Not a classic, its no Die Hard or Lethal Weapon but its still a good action flick for its time:up:

Stallone's performance at the end is classic

NOTHING IS OVER!!!!

Rambo: First Blood is a classic action movie in my book.

It's one of those movies that if I come across it while flipping channels - I always end up watching the rest of it.

First Blood was groundbreaking. It created and defined a genre. It was at once a protest against war, and a call for sympathy for the brave men and women that give up everything to protect us. The shades of gray are refreshing...there is no clear villian/hero...it's brilliantly written and full of irony.

Rambo II was more of a classic to me.

"Murdock.......i'm coming to get you!" is still one of the greatest lines in any action movie...EVER!

Without a doubt its a classic.Arguably the greatest action film ever made.Stallone rocked this film in every way

Stallone's best movie by a mile IMO, a great movie full of great characters and action.

Yeah, I neevr cared for the Rocky Series. Never seem a whole Rambo movie, only seen bits and here over time. Wasn't too impressed by anything. One day I'll have to see the first one though, maybe.

Rambo was ok..decent action flick, but IN NO WAY IS IT A CLASSIC

I think First Blood is a really great intense CLASSIC movie. The story and performances are all great. The only thing I dislike are the cheeky weekend warriors that show up in the middle, but that doesnt ruin the whole movie for me.

I like it more than Lethal Weapon or Die Hard, but maybe that's just me..

Great movie. Depending on what mood I'm in, I might rank this higher than Die Hard and Lethal Weapon.

My absolute favorite action sequence in the movie( although it doesn't involve rambo shooting anyone) is the police head quartes escape scene, rambo kicks the crap out of those cops, he fought his way out kicking punching and sending the cops flying through glass, and look pretty raw and real too.

:wow: Blas will have your head.

It was an important movie for its portrayal of how Vietnam soldiers were often met with despise and distrust when they got back, and the scars that the war made. Then it turned into a pure action/propaganda franchise, but the first one had a good story at its core.

You missed the point.

Rambo looks like a vagrant and a hippie...the people that looked down on and spat at our returning soldiers from that war. He is harassed and arrested by small town good ole' boys...for being a vagrant and a hippie...It's a bit of irony, but adresses some really deep seeded issues in American culture and counter culture. John J. Rambo isn't met with despise and distrust for being a soldier from Vietnam. He is met with despise and distrust for looking like one of the people that protested the war.

To say the least.
