Ironman 1 8/10
Ironman 2 5/10
Ironman 3 2/10
After thinking on this a while, the first movie is still the best. It had way more pressure on it than any other superhero movie, save Superman 1. Why, because Marvel put all their chips on the table, and had it not succeeded, that may have been the end. Possibly having to file bankruptcy again, after taking out large loans to finance the film.
Not only did it succeed, but it's considered among the best in the genre, and paved the way for everything else.
Iron Man 1 - 7/10
I have a few problems with this movie that repeat viewings haven't helped with at all.
Firstly, when he's in the cave, he's being watched with CCTV I imagine pretty much all the time so how does he get away with being able to build the suit and using that huge screen so the camera can't see what he's doing?
Why don't those guards just march in there and demand to know what's behind the screen? Or even have guards in the room he's working in as the missile is clearly so important to the guy in charge?
Secondly, when he gets the suit on in the cave and he's making his way to the entrance after the chaos caused by the door to Stark's room exploding and his partner buying some time by running down the tunnels firing at the guards, do none of the 20? 30? 50? ten rings guys outside the cave pick up an RPG rather than just have machine guns to fire at Stark with? Remember they're surrounded by boxes and boxes of Stark's weapons.
Lastly, I couldn't stand Obadiah Stain. Boring businessman in a suit and the fact he was a friend who betrayed Stark wasn't interesting at all to me. I'm sure he's a good actor but really made this movie very poor for me. The lame fight at the end didn't help either or his stupid voice.
Iron Man 2 - 8/10
Iron Man 3 10/10
IM1 - 9.5/10
IM2 - 8.5/10
IM3 - 4/10
I guess that can happen when you change directors.
1. Iron Man 3 8/10
2. Iron Man 7/10
3. Iron Man 2 4/10
Saw IM3 last night.
The political intrigue, humor, and early action puts it above IM2 but the ending and final action scene is terribly messy though it had some cool moments.
I thought the twist was cute. I always like surrealism and that was very surreal.
Ultimately it fell short of the strong character arc from the first Iron Man movie but it still have far more redeeming factors than IM2.
1) IM (7.7)
2) IM3 (6.9)
3) IM2 (6.1)
IM1 -Brilliant flick, in my top 5 favorite comic book movies.
IM2 - Messy but highly entertaining. Gets a little too much hate IMO.
IM3 - Has a tighter, stronger story than IM2, but I didn't find it particularly entertaining.
1. Iron Man - 9.5/10
2. Iron Man 3 - 9/10
3. Iron Man 2 - 8/10
Yep, it's the best of the three and I suspect the gap in this poll will get wider over time. It has stood up to 5 years of scrutiny. IM3 just came out, lol.
Why I like Iron Man 2 more than Iron Man 3:
-The introduction of War Machine
-War Machine fighting side by side with Iron Man
-Scarlet Johannson as Black Widow
-Brief case mark
-Much less comedy
-Stark fighting in a mark more than once
-Stark fighting drunk as Iron Man
-The final action piece was well put together
-Iron Man was a stronger character (had more brains)
-Iron Man having something to with the defeat of the main antagonist
Iron Man - 4.5/5
Iron Man 2 - 2/5
Iron Man 3 - 2/5
Iron Man 1: 9/10
Iron Man 3: 8/10
Iron Man 2: 7/10
He always has something to do with the defeat of the main antagonist. IM1 he told Pepper what to do, IM2 he defeated Vanko with the help of Rhodey and IM3 Pepper used HIS tech.
Besides some people consider J Hammer the main villain in IM2 and Pepper technically defeated him.
For me, it is Iron Man 3, followed by 1, with 2 in last place.
2 I enjoyed at the time when it was released, but 3 came along and blew it out of the water.
1 sets up the foundation for the entire MCU, but 3 is the culmination of the MCU, and I love how 3 spins out of the events of the Avengers, Stark's reaction to those events is spot on.
I also agree that 3 breaks some archetypes to the genre, and hopefully the rest of Phase 2 is going to follow suit and push further into different directions.
People may gripe about the Mandarin twist, but I thought it was awesome. And yes I read Iron Man comic books.
The best Marvel movie hands down. It does the best with making a serious take on a Marvel superhero while still making it fun and entertaining to watch.
There are moments of greatness it this, but ultimately it fails to truly shine.
Robert Downy Jr. is the only person that makes this watchable. The rest of the movie suffers from a weak plot, making a potential memorable villain into a joke, and focuses on the actual villain who is just boring and unmemorable.
Iron Man 1 > Iron Man 2 >>>>>> Iron Man 3
I saw IM3 again and liked it even more. Just a VERY entertaining film. I'm actually surprised I prefer IM3 over Man of Steel.
Iron Man 3
Iron Man 2
I really like Iron Man 2. I love both Iron Man and Iron Man 3. If I had to give a "star" rating:
Iron Man 3 (4.5/5)
Iron Man (4.5/5)
Iron Man 2 (4/5)
I love the first movie. As someone said, it was "lightning in a bottle." It was the impetus for a slew of blockbuster superhero films. They got the armored suits right. They actually did it, and made it work perfectly. Downey was perfect. They respected the comics 100%. This is something that could've gone so horribly wrong, but they nailed it. It's not a great film, but it does what it's supposed to do. It just flows so smoothly from scene to scene. I never get tired of watching it.
I only saw the second movie once. I liked it, aside from a few small complaints. It was a fun, entertaining Iron Man film. The racetrack scene alone was worth the price of admission, for me. I'd recommend it to friends. If I saw it in a bargain bin at the store, I'd pick it up.
Iron Man 3 pissed me off so much. It felt like a betrayal. I posted my review in the designated thread, but honestly, I held back a little. I thought this could've been the best superhero film to date, but it just didn't work for me. There was a huge amount of action, great special effects, constant humor, and it was very fast-paced. These are some of the main reasons why so many people liked it. To each his own, but I really hated it. I saw it with a group of nine people on opening weekend, and fans and non-fans alike seemed to agree that there were a lot of problems with the film. I feel that it's incredibly overrated, but it's slightly encouraging to see so many people on these boards who are calling it for what it really is, and pointing out the flaws.
1. IM3 8+
2. IM 8
. IM2 5
All ranked on a 10pt scale
I like them in ascending order. The initial outing is the best for reasons already stated here multiple times over. Just a great endeavour. A little lackluster on the final confrontation, but nothing to lessen the experience. It was so great to see that character play out on screen and lead to the MCU (not the Major Crimes Unit ).
The sequel has it's moments, but is bogged down a bit by Tony being a little too hyper, as well as the Avengers stuff coming across as shoehorned in, though it's remotely connected. God, Sam Rockwell is top shelf.
The third was a bit predictable in the 'hero loses everything, but will conquer and rebuild' facet, but there's nothing there that really dooms the effort. The Mandarin 'twist', however, just outright rankles my Underoos. It took me out of the movie a bit and just had me wanting to get to the end (which boasted it's own predictability in how Killian is ultimately defeated). It really cast a negative light on the entire effort for me.
Great score in this one, the army of suits is beyond awesome and I appreciated that they gave Tony some depth and placed real emphasis on development. **** that twist though. Admittedly, it's petty, but part of the deal in being devoted to and hugely invested in these characters is tossing around a bit of pettiness from time to time. You wanna fight about it?
Iron Man - 9/10
Iron Man 2 - 7.5/10
Iron Man 3 - 5.5/10
Iron Man 1 : 9.5/10 still the best superhero movie ever made. True greatness here.
Iron Man 2 : 8.5/10 not nearly as good but still a really sold film and probably the highest grade I've ever given to a superhero sequel.
Iron Man 3 : 7.5/10 Reasonably decent despite a foolish attempt with the villain to be too smart for their own good. It's a credit to the film that the rest is great enough to save the movie.
You went from giving it a 4 to 7.5 like I've rated it all along. I knew you'd come around eventually.
We arrived at the same overall rating in different ways. I loved the twist, but thought the Extremis bad guys kinda sucked.
