Now that you've seen Kate Bossworth's performance in the film, what is your assesment of her as Lois Lane?

"As always, it fails with the Lois Lane casting, but even that we’ve come to expect from Superman movies. They just never get it right. According to the comic book, Lois Lane is a brainy bombshell along the lines of an Ava Gardner or even a Jennifer Connelly. Margot Kidder had the brainy but not the bombshell; in the TV series Teri Hatcher had the bombshell but not the brainy; and, in “Superman Returns,” Kate Bosworth, pretty in a nice skin, cleft chin, non-descript sort of way, can pull off neither. If they can faithfully plaster a ridiculous spit curl in the middle of Routh’s broad forehead, just like in the comic book, then they can damn well get a brilliant, raven-haired beauty as Lois, just like in the comic book."

sounds right to me

i couldn't find anything wrong with her performance (unlike kidder, the most famous live action lois, for some reason) but there was nothing terribly special about it, either.

i didn't mind (or even really notice) that she was "too young", because things like that don't effect me... she just didn't really stand out, to me... she was just kind of there, in a good way, just not a great way.

she was great with routh, though.

so would you say that Routh and Bosworth had good 'chemistry'?

i mean, it's not like meg ryan and tom hanks chemistry (for lack of a better example) but they definately seem to get along on screen, and seem to have fun with one another...

They work well together. I liked her performance as lois.

She was one of the best parts of the film, surprisingly.

she was good, but she didn't scream "Lois". all I got was "reporter mom". good but nothing memorable.

She lacked chemistry with Routh and lacked the spunk and wit required of Lois.

Then again, I was blinded by her giant forehead the whole movie.

Kate was alright. Remember, this is a different Lois Lane. She is a mom and all.

Rachel McAdams would have been better, but again, Kate did alright. I'll defend her!!!

There are other aspects I WON'T defend, however!!!

That Lois became a mother should have made her even more interesting and colorful, not dull and passive and unwitty.

Lois Lane as a mother should be like a lioness protecting her cubs who still flirts with the other lions.

It's amazing how you can go from having a legitimate complaint to making a stupid comment, which nullifies the first thing. :down

She was the breakout surprise star for me. I knew Brandon would be good... I didnt know about Kate...but WOW

She was very believeable as an older Lois Lane (late 20s-30).....I never once thought she was 23.

She was definately a great choice.

I say we ressurect the 'Reviews of Brandon Routh" thread too....Superman needs the high praise he earned.

As I said in another thread, one of the main things I see complained about is her (Bosworth) being 22 when the movie was shot, since when did the actor have to be the same age as the character? Looking at her I could easily believe Lois is in her LATE 20s if I didn't go and research Bosworth's birthdate.

Nice to see people make immature comments about Kate's forehead as the reason why they think she wasn't good. Oh yeah, stop being rude to people who are born with big forehead or something they're usually born with & can't do something about the way they are born. Even my forehead is like that & it insulting to me. Grow up.

And as for her performance, I think she fantastic. Great chemistry with Routh is a reason why she was cast & it show. Bosworth have prove me she can play many different roles if she has great chemistry with the casts.

She did a good job, and I really liked Singer's direction for Lois more than I actually liked Bosworth. She was great when she was with Supes, but idk...she was flat in other areas and there was a bit of the spunkiness missing.

I did like her and she did act her ass off :)

She was fantastic IMO - her age never became a problem to me and she made the cahracter believable in my eyes.

However I thought the movie was fantastically cast. Routh simply embodies Superman for me now - I could watch a guy fly through the sky wearing Red and Blue underoos tommorow and Routh would still be Superman to me.

And she was likeable...thats a first for Lois.

I hated Kidder, came off like an annoying hag at times.

Durance comes off like some unstable coke addict.

Hatcher was good but she was way too hardnosed, I couldnt like her and she didnt really put out any likeable human qualities.

Bosworth certainly did.

3.5/10

We're supposed to believe this is an older Lois than Margot Kidder's version? One who even has a kid? She looks about as old as a sophmore in High School, who is just about to get her liscense. She looks more ridiculous and stupid, then Katie Holmes trying to convince the audience she is a D.A.

I felt Bosworth gave a very mature performance. I didn't think of her age at all. The problem was this Lois lacked spunk. She came off more spunky in the novel, but it looks like most of that either wasn't filmed or was cut. I did LOVE her interaction with Supes, and KB and BR have some really good chemistry...really good.

My problem was she was just...I don't missing something. I loved the direction of her character, but she seemed...joyless.

Gosh...I understand where Ebert was coming from. Again, I really thinks this is a good movie.

i'll be posting a more comprehensive review for Lois tomorrow. right now i just need to catch some Zs
