Sorry if their is already a thread like this, did not know, anyways I want to know what are the cons of having a Rated R Batman film?...Cause I see no problem with it if it happens.

"Dark Knight Returns" NEEDS to be Rated-R if they ever decide to do it after Nolan.

It's not going to happen because it'll alienate the younger crowd which is still a significant portion of Batman's audience. Also, despite what people seem to think, an R rating adds nothing to make a Batman movie (I would argue any movie) better.

Because of Watchmen (moron parents taking children to a R rated film because "its a super hero movie") pretty much shows that Warner Brothers won't dare to make more R Rated superhero movies. I mean sure TDKR would have a bigger box office then Watchmen but i'd say it could be lower than Batman Begins or Batman Forever. Which is something Warner Bros don't want to.

Really PG-13 for TDKR would work just fine really if you ask me.

Watchmen only really needed an R rating due to the penis factor, everything else could've been put into a PG-13 film.

I saw kids aged 5 watching TDK...I was more scared of Heath than they were, lol.

Rated R though? No...It isnt necessary.

I'm not saying its needed to make the movie better, just though a dark film like Batman should be Rated R like Die Hards and LEthal Weapons...Always though Schumaker like Bat films be PG-13...But thats just me, PG-13 is fine but just saying why not Rated R....Batman Returns was Rated R like.

Why not rated R? Because the stuff that would need to be added to make it R (generally nudity, cursing and excessive violence) is not needed to make a Batman movie.

A theater-released R-rated Batman film is as likely as me getting into bed with Elizabeth Banks.

While it would be great to see a Batman film that isn't afraid to hold back, it's just never going to happen.

Batman is an all-ages character.
No. He can be an all-ages character. Unless we're all in disagreement that we can't read Arkham Asylum as a bedtime story to little Billy and Susie.

Actually, it's the opposite. He is an all-ages character, but he can also be used in more adult stories.

Excessive amount of gore, swearing, nudity, simulated sex.... yeah, totally PG-13....

:p

:p

It didn't need the gore, the swearing wasn't excessive, and the nudity and sex didn't need to be front and center.

Well, now you're just playing semantics. :o

I can't really say I agree, because I believe Batman's story is inherently dark, morbid, depressing...which makes it not for all ages.

I'm saying Batman Rated R film could be like Lethal Weapon films for example....And whats wrong with one sex scene with Bruce and a lover...Also they can have cursing but do not go over the limit....Moviesl ike Lethal Weapon did not go over the limit with cursing, sex, nudity and blood....Rated R Batman film could be the same...And like Crook said Batman can be for all ages, but it can also not be.

Can someone explain to me why they don't just create a new rating systems? That US system is really flawed for today's audiences. Other than that, a harder rated Batman film does give you more artistic possibilities, so I'm all for it. And to be honest, I don't care about children, there are interpretations of Batman that are made especially for them, no reason why one can't be made for adults.

That's because of a mental condition that certain people have... which you seem to have as well.

What mental conition i have?....Batman is a Rated R character and his world is anyways....And I see no problem with it....It can be handled and be successful if done right.

Batman is not an R rated character, so that may be your delusion.

Batman rated R=Disaster. Comics may be sometimes...but I like the direction that the movies are in now. If it aint broke...dont fix it.

PG-13 is fine.

I don't think the R rating adds anything to the character of Batman, he uses Martial Arts combat to fight crime, not firearms, blades or various other murder weapons. On the other hand, it could add something to the villains. You could clearly show The Joker or other homicidal villains murdering people without the rating holding it back and allow bloodletting.

Batman is a Rated R character

Batman is a dark character but cursing is not a part of him and he does not use deadly murder weapons instead he uses Martial Arts combat.

and his world is anyways....

Yes, his world is full of crime, corruption, psychopaths and violence but the mainstream comic book hold back on the violence.

While, Batman stories like The Killing Joke, TDKR, A Death in the Family and Arkham Asylum are aimed at adult readers.

PG-13 rating can only shows some aspects of real life, excluding nudity and toning down violence and cursing.

While, R rating can show all aspects of real life, even nudity and no holding back on violence and cursing.

Well, they did want it to be as close as possible, so I do think those things were needed. Maybe not the gore,(or just a little less) but the other two. And whether the swearing was excessive or not, there was still swearing.
