Comics Re:Sandman wants to play Daddy

I've been reading the latest plot hread in ASM in which the Sandman not only kills a little girl's mother but kidnaps the child herself in order to act as her surrogate father. Despite Spidey's mocking him that a creature of sand as opposed to flesh and blood, he has"no baby making parts", I thought this desire for paternity on his part was rather moving and deeply sad even if I could NOT condone murder and kidnapping. Does anybody think as I do?
