Justice League Real Talk - Where does the DCEU go from here? - Part 1

I suspect SS2 will be made on a slightly lower budget than the first film even with the inclusion of Black Adam/Dwayne Johnson.

Maybe Dwayne will just escape from the coffin half naked with shorts, and run away barefeet. 20M VFX saved :oldrazz:

Collider Heroes is showing still how much of a bubble they are surrounding themselves in post JL.

Watching now...my lord...this is absolutely delusional talk here. If there weren't mics in front of them, society would put them on medication.

They might save cash by filming Dwayne's scenes at the same time they do the post credits scene for Shazam.

Jj Abrams could be another yes. Not of the magnitude of Nolan ( His Star trek 2 made money, but was not a box office mega hit) but still. Now, as you say, it's doubful that he would do it, before a long time.

Abrams is a safe bet. However, that means that a true MOS sequel wouldn't be on screens until 2021 at earliest... unless he starts prepping it while in post on Star Wars: Episode IX.

J.A. Bayona is a talented filmmaker, and is on record as wanting to make a Superman film. Given the current state of the property, finding a filmmaker with genuine passion for the source material holds immense value. If Fallen Kingdom comes out and is a smash success like its predecessor, I'd give him a call.

J.A. Bayona is a good one. Warners should keep an eye to see how Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is tracking, then court him a few weeks before it comes out.

what are they saying?

They're talking about most these future DC films that were slated to go into production and acting as if JL2 is going to happen. There's no talk about the fallout from JL and what it means for all these projects, just a belief they are still moving forward with most of them. It's a genuine disservice to the audience to talk as if nothing has changed with the DCU, because the reality is everything has changed. Collider Heroes is not having an honest conversation about the future and are not being honest with their audience, they are still in wish fulfilment mode.

Collider is click bait. Its to be expected.

I shouldn't be surprised to be honest, the reason I tuned out 18 months ago was because most of the talk on their shows seemed to always tip toe around certain subject matters, not wanting to rock any boats or piss people off. Nothing's changed apparently.

Let's not forget that they are doubling down on the idea that Justice League's under-performance came down to everything but the quality of their films.

To be fair, that's standard DCEU fan behavior at this point.

Ah I see.

I listened to El Fan boy podcast, BOF podcast, and will listen to Superhero news today hopefully.

Except we aren't talking about Batman Begins here. We are talking about a $300 million Justice League that's a sequel to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which featured Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman.

there are some similarities and differences, but they should make the decisions based on how the audiences react to the "soft rebooted" characters in this one first, in the next few weeks/month.

There aren't any similarities at all. Batman Begins was the first film of a new hopeful franchise for Batman. It wasn't tied to anything else. It was just Batman. It had a big budget and Christopher Nolan behind it.

This situation with Justice League is in no ways similar.

Or maybe Batgirl was offered to Whedon in exchange for helping do JL

Joss was already working on JL when he saw the big wall slate with all the movies WB wants to make. He asked (I believe it was) Geoff Johns, "Really, you guys want to make a Batgirl movie?" And the response was "Absolutely."

Joss said "That's my jam." (That's a direct quote). So we can assume WB went "Fine, here you go." I don't think JL's performance has anything to do with it. They want to make more movies.

I'd rather he not do it, because of how he handled Batman in JL. There was no need to wimpify him.

The best move would be to just wipe the whole slate clean, and just keep the parts you like.

This whole DC Film Universe is broken.

similarity is people didn't like previous films, missed it on opening weekends, catches up to it eventually and enjoy what they see, and will give it a chance for the next one, if they have strong critical reception/buzz/wom.

not sure if you browsed through previous pages, the legs for monday and tuesday of JL are decent, especially tuesday is great, has a 41% increase compared to MJ2 33% and FB 38%, China projected to crack 100M+ close to Thor 3, improving on BvS.

that's the similarity, IF those numbers hold over the next few weeks, people are judging based on DOM opening b.o., how about let the movie leg it out and see how far it gets. but we can agree to disagree.

Nah. As long as you've got awesome characters, you can keep cookin' (well, as long as Joss doesn't get to write dialogue for Batman). This time go for roastin' low & slow rather than a stir-fry.

Wan's Aquaman will be a good time. That guy's a pro. Wonder Woman 2 is comin' up.

WB needs to get on the ball with securing a director for the next Superman movie. Flashpoint, too.

Except the film is projected to lose $100 million unlike all those other examples.

My jaw dropped when Schnepp said Superman being in the new posters was going to boost JL box office. I agree with him that not marketing Superman was a mistake, but that it's now going to change the box office?

On Movie Talk he predicted 100 million for the holiday weekend.

projected based on opening weekend that some say the film won't make 600M, yes, I saw and heard all that. Now the numbers for weekdays are in, it's targetting 700M and might have a chance to break even, instead of losing 100M some wanted.

That plus audience liking the characters (IF the legs are there)+WW2 and AM made by Wan and Bat by Reeves, rebooting everything would be a rash decision right now.

Today's Day 6. Tuesday had a good showing with around 10.5 million domestic. Big jump up from Monday.

It's far too early for anyone to gauge whether the movie will break even (my guess) or be a loss. Not counting today, it's made roughly 300 million worldwide.

The movie might very well have a smaller drop because of Thanksgiving but some of the predictions just seem like fantasy.
