With JL on track to under perform at the box office, what ramifications will this have on the DCEU going forward? Surely, this will influence WB's decision to greenlight films such as Gotham City Sirens and other lesser known DC characters...

Bummer. I've gone from unbelievable levels of hype in Feb 2013 to utter numbness and apathy toward the DCEU.

It really depends on how much momentum films like Aquaman, Flashpoint, And Suicide Squad 2 gives them in all honesty.

If those films resonate with both moviegoers and critics enough to be successful then the DCEU will be in better shape for it and the lesser characters will likely get their films

It depends on what JL does at the box office.

WB needs to just let the filmmakers it hires to actually do their films. They agree to their visions only to keep pulling knee jerk reactions and stepping in to meddle with films. They've truncated 3 out of the 5 movies so far, at least that we publicly know about. If you sign a contract and shake hands with someone, it should be because you agree to the terms and partnership. Instead they pull a Vader "prey I don't alter the deal any further".

Someone already mentioned how Marvel/Feige trust in their filmmakers and this has been very successful for them. If they have disagreements, they handle it BEFORE production, not in the editing bay. Remember that is what happened with Fantastic Four and the end result was a mess.

I hope they do kind of soft reboot, but with most of the cast still there. The negative reputation this franchise has right now is damaging the property and the future films.

I'd love nothing more than to see a reboot, but they're too invested at this point to quit now. Or WB just sells the DC live action film rights.

Hopefully without any more studio interference and less jarring tonal shifts.

People love the DCeU characters. Just stick with the solo movies. MOS sequel, the Batman, WW2, Flashpoint, Aquaman. Those movies will all make money, even though I'm not sure Aquaman will be that great. Did not enjoy him underwater in JL. Thought his personality was cool though, just didn't dig his powers or what he did underwater.

I think soft reboot, and by soft reboot, I mean move forward in a new direction and don't look back.

You don't necessarily need to Flashpoint the universe or anything. But you don't need to reference the old movies, or be to beholden to continuity.

For example lets say Ben drops out. Then replace him with an actor in his 30's and pretend the tired/older 20 years in Gotham stuff never happened. Sure it contradicts BVS, but if the actor fits I don't think anyone will care to much.

Dan Olson did a really in depth analysis and he pointed out parts of the film seem to really want you to forget certain things that happened in BVS (which is kind of glaring given this is a direct sequel) so yeah. I think from here on out we're essentially getting a soft reset that ignores or at least greatly downplays the two previous Snyder films.

We will probably still keep most of the same cast (Cavill finally gets to shine here) but the take is going to be different.

First things first... Aqua Man is in the can so you release that see how it does. THEN you decide what you are going to do, Keep going with Shazam as if it is not connected to the DCEU for now.

Agreed. Really wasn’t a fan of that scene.

This is the same thing we said months ago but about JL instead of Aquaman. Movies take a while to make, they can't wait until the end of 2018 to make decisions.

Just keep going. They've changed the tone and all systems appear to be go. Love the second end credit scene, gives a lot to go on. If I was Gerald McGrew running the zoo, here's what would be put in production ASAP...

MoS2
Batman solo
Teen Titans
GL Corps.
Hawkman
Martian Manhunter

DC needs to show confidence in their properties like Marvel has. Stop second guessing and move forward!

This, especially when shareholders will have a end of the year/1st quarter meeting asking what's going on with their most profitable franchise at the moment.

I think with Flash being a favorite in JL they're gonna focus on that some more.

Confirmed films:

Aquaman
Shazam
Wonder Woman 2
The Batman

Add Flash(point) and Suicide Squad 2 and that's a pretty good list for 2018-2021

It's simple: Hire more people like Patty Jenkins and less people like Zack Snyder.

Make films that most of the fanbase, critics, and casual audience can love, instead of films that some of the fanbase, few of the critics, and some of the casual audience love.

They did allow Snyder to do his thing in MOS and BVS, what was the result? They were disappointed with both of the movies. And don't tell me extended cut of BVS would have turned the movie from a disappointment into a wild success they were hoping for.
