Nobody seemed interested in making a thread for this event, so I went and made one myself! We just got the previews for The ROK oneshot, and you can find it here.

Quasar and a big beast straight out of Lovecraft! Very nice. I like Wendell's decription of the beast as well.
"This thing reeks of lost aeons and Dead stars."

Sadly I have yet to take a look at The Imperial guard series, but will shortly.

We were using the War of Kings thread for Realm of Kings stuff. A thread specifically for RoK couldn't hurt, though.

Realm of Kings: Imperial Guard had a pretty solid first issue. I don't really like anyone on the Imperial Guard, but Gladiator's cool. The issue has a surprise guest, too (not really surprising if you think about it, but I hadn't). Looking forward to the next issue, which is saying something since I hesitated to even buy this one.

Its actually nice of DnA to try and flesh out all sides of the story as they did in WoK. This was sadly missing in their first foray in Cosmic Megaevents, Conquest, but they really improved on their game with WoK. There were some story inconsistencies and deadweight characters (i.e. Starjammers) but it was a solid read all throughout.

I didn't care for ROK: IMPERIAL GUARD #1 at all. I thought it tried desperately to make enforcers for a borderline fascist monarchy that seeks to crush "rebels" who have legitimate grievances (like being overworked to the point of starvation) seem appealing. It didn't work for me. I liked some of the twists in it but I don't think they will be enough for me to invest another $20 into the rest of the mini. Abnett & Lanning may have been better off just doing a STARJAMMERS mini and involving the Guard in that, rather than vice versa. I found more charm in Christos Gage's PLANET SKAAR one shot.

You thought it tried to make the Imperial Guard appealing? I thought it was pretty upfront about portraying them as unabashed bastards, which is perfectly in line with their portrayal in War of Kings.
