We've had Batman Begins and Casino Royale (Bond Begins), and The Incredible Hulk, whilst not contradicting the events of the 2003 movie, is not a direct sequel at all (I think the trailers for TIH are going to just be 100% action, almost saying, "Look, we've got what you want this time!").
I suppose one might even call Rob Zombie's uncoming Halloween a reboot, even though it is technically a remake, simply because it is a long-running series that has suddenly hit reset. The last Halloween sequel was only a few years beforehand, but the producers have decided to start all over again.
So which other franchises would benefit from being started all over again?
