We've had Batman Begins and Casino Royale (Bond Begins), and The Incredible Hulk, whilst not contradicting the events of the 2003 movie, is not a direct sequel at all (I think the trailers for TIH are going to just be 100% action, almost saying, "Look, we've got what you want this time!").

I suppose one might even call Rob Zombie's uncoming Halloween a reboot, even though it is technically a remake, simply because it is a long-running series that has suddenly hit reset. The last Halloween sequel was only a few years beforehand, but the producers have decided to start all over again.

So which other franchises would benefit from being started all over again?

I thought this thread was about the cartoon series "Reboot" and then I thought, "you know what, making a movie based on the cartoon would be the coolest concept in Hollywood."

Of all the superhero films that have come and gone, I think the Shadow would benefit most as a franchise. Because you can make it a period piece or modernize the hero and the tale. There are two different origins (from the film and pulp) and he's such a great character that I think you could make a few enjoyable films.

What's weird about Singer's Superman is that everybody expected a reboot, and he surprised everyone by continuing the old series after 19 years.

I think I would have enjoyed Superman Returns much more if Singer had carried over the fun and excitement of the original Christopher Reeve series as well.

Well, Superman Returns was just one movie.

^I wish that Superman had been rebooted, instead of being a distant sequel to the Donner film, but we have to deal with what was there. I did really like Superman Returns, though.

:D

I agree, wholeheartedly.

I think that The Shadow and The Phantom should definitely have reboots.
The original movies are some of my favorite movies, so seeing reboots would be wonderful.

Robocop, if they kept the R rating and the sick sense of humor from the original film and ditched the constant "Say, let's bring in an EVIL robot for Robocop to fight!" gimmick.

^If RoboCop weren't so stiff, I'd say bring on the remake.

Robocop is a concept far too "of its time" to be rebooted for modern audiences.

yeah, i know. in my darkest moments i wish abrams script had been used, just so we could get something different.

Explain.

Rebooted:

Spider-man. Raimi's trilogy sucks. A few good parts doesn't make the whole thing great.

Thank you.
I was afraid to say that, because I didn't want a new a**hole ripped into my body.

the original Robocop wasn't just made in the eighties, it's about the eighties, it's a social satire that's perfectly constructed for its time. everything from the seeming ominipotence of OCP to the presentation of the pervasive media presence, to the overlaying theme of cold war era military spending and contracting, to the theme of technology taking over EVERY aspect of life (even life itself). Those themes were at their height in the 1980's and that's when it was ripe for satire.

a robocop movie made today would likely just be a straight up action movie with a CGI, fast and agile robocop, and that would just be missing the point. hell, it would be a deathlock movie.

and i like the first 2 spider-man flicks

I think spidey fans are more mellow now, just need time to gather their thoughts after all the overblown hype and the crushingly messy film we were given. It's not going to be easy to digest the whole affair but we'll move on and some day spidey will hopefully be given to someone who cares more for the source material and its fans.

No regular guy going to chill at the movies is going to think about any of that. But I do see parallels in there to today's world so I think it could be done if we wanted to do the same thing over again, which would make a reboot pointless.

The new Robocop would be different and suck like Robocop 3. So we agree there.

You and a billion other people like them. I like only the villains and JJJ. The rest is a chore.

Reboot Ghost Rider with a David Goyer, that would have been a much better vision character instead of that cheap crappy campy film we got instead. He updated Blade to be cool, he can update Ghost Rider as well.

you're right about that. but that's what robocop is. without the satire, it would be something else, and they might as well make something else other than call a movie Robocop that has no business being called Robocop.

JJJ is by far the best part of the movies, he's the only actor i'd keep if i got a chance to make my version of spidey. maybe a cameo for dafoe...just because he's dafoe

AH HA. :D They'd call it Inspector Gadget

now THAT'S a franchise that needs a cold Reboot, and fast! Something more like this would be better:

Inspector Gadget? That film would be awesome if done right! Though, I do have to admit Evil Gadget was funny. Lol.

Just like Ghost Rider would be an awesome reboot! :)

Stay true to the sources this time.

well, the Get Smart movie with Steve Carrell is probably the closest we'll get to a great Inspector Gadget flick.

If you're still trying to annoy me with the ghost rider thing, it won't work.

1. it's no Catwoman.
2. It's an infant that's yet to grow and prove whether it's worth rebooting or simply get better with sequels.
3. Nobody really cares about the source. Ghost rider's not like batman or superman. so People won't make hundred page threads about something not being right...
