When I was doing my Smallville marathon yesterday, I actually skipped Reckoning because that episode makes me cry way too damn much, and I was trying to keep in a light, positive mood. But it is hands-down my favorite Smallville episode ever.

he died. =( again.............oh the torture

So I just teared up all over again.........

I wish Lana would have died instead of Johnathan. I hate her so much right now.

Me?

Personally, of all the characters I thought Jonathan deserved to die the most. He'd served his purpose, in a literary sense anyway.

His job was done and Clark didn't need him anymore. He even said that later when he saw Clark as a ghost.

It's a great episode.

It's a great episode. I hate that he didn't tell Lana the second time around, but it does make for an incredible and heartwrenching storyline.

That final scene at the graveside was just beautiful. The snow, the slow-mo, the song, the symbolism of everyone walking away and leaving Clark to ultimately stand alone... I teared up too. :(

The scene at the graveyard is possibly one of the most beautiful in the series.

Next to the next episode when Clark hugs his mom at the end, it's one of the saddest too.

I think the prize taker for saddest scene has to be the end of Vengeance.. with Jonathan's picture frozen on the TV while Clark finally breaks down in Martha's arms.

Even my son, who was watching tonight was commenting on that scene from Vengeance.

It is an amazing, beautifully shot & acted scene. Peter Gabriel's "I Grieve" is one of the best uses of music in the series. I agree--the scene at the end of Vengeance makes me lose it too--both are so touching.

I love both halves of Reckoning--the storyline where he tells Lana, and the storyline where he doesn't. They're both tragic in their own ways, but I think the bigger tragedy would have been Clark *not* going back to save Lana. He's the man who will become Superman. It is in his blood to try to save everyone. The realization that he couldn't save his father...oh gosh...I'm starting to tear up right now. :(

has to be hands down the best episode from smalville it had everything still wish that lana knows.

My tears start when Martha is screaming right after Jonathan dies in her arms. But the utter look of devastation on Clark's face, capped off with him latching the pearl necklace on his mom (as his dad used to do) just breaks me every time I watch. The graveyard scene for me is always viewed behind a well of tears. The episode is by far one of Smallville's most incredible.

I saw this last night. First time I'd seen it since it premiered in January, and it's still sad to watch that last scene.

i'm pretty sure one day i'll gather the courage to watch it again.. :o

I don't know what was sadder, Pa Kent Dying, or Lana coming back to life

i was so happy when he told lana, then i was even happier when she died, but no, they had to bring that skank back. god i hate her!! then when he didn't tell her again that was it. i can NEVER like lana. and i will always think clark is a tool, a tool of stupidity

Okay, so I'm not even watching it and I'm crying. :(

I wished he would have told Lana the second time too, but now I've got that moment to look forward to all over again.

That's the way I'm gonna look at it. :)

I've been thinking that it would be great for the story if Lana got to see the first part of Reckoning, sometime toward the end of the series. I'm sure there is some sci-fi way they could achieve this. She doesnt tell Clark that she knows what happens thus coming to terms with herself that the World is more important than her happiness.

I don't know, COMICBOY... I think you're being too wishy washy.

Tell me how you really feel about Lana.

Great idea, avid. I'm holding out some hope for them to re-use, replay, or have Lana "remember" that scene later in the series. I enjoy how L&C manages to weave their time-travel / alternate reality shows back into the continuity of the show and I'd love to see Smallville do some of the same in Season Six.

It would be great to see how different the now-Lana's reaction would be from her past self as she watches the scene, especially after her burgeoning hatred of kryptonians in Vessel and Lex's own (scary) demonstration of his powers to her by shooting himself in the hand. It would be a bittersweet scene, no matter how it played out--but I'd certainly love to see it.
