Looking for recommendations on some trust-worthy and free registry cleaner software that I can download. Anyone use one? My PC is about 6 years old and getting SLOW as all heck. I've seen adverts for RegTool, anyone use this?

I use Ccleaner, but I'm going to try out this UniBlue

Can someone explain to me what the benefit of using this kind of software is? I'm clearly not tech-savvy enough, as I've never heard of such a thing :csad:

like say you download a program/files/etc and delete it, some of its "residue" is left behind, registry cleaners remove these little pieces

at least, that's how it seems to me?

Ahh, sounds like a very beneficial type of program to use, then. How often do you all run yours?

*bump* just because the server was acting up when I posted, and this post didn't show up on the subscriptions list.

Hmm, the uniblue doesn't work with my OS :(

I'm currently running their free scan (LOTS of errors found already!), but do I have to pay to actually "fix" what the scan detects?

not sure, ohh yea i got the full version of this (it comes with antivirus, antispyware, ect)

Yeah, I discovered that you do have to purchase the full program. Somebody didn't read the "free" in the thread title before they posted that link :oldrazz:

lol well i did say this is what i used
and its the best one i have in some time

I looked up Ccleaner, and noticed that it deletes things such as stored passwords, if I'm reading it correctly. I want to keep my passwords and such!

well you can delete your temp internet files and cookies. i only run mine maybe once a week. but i think you can uncheck that box if you don't want those deleted

Tried the RegTool software. Download and scan was free, however if I actually wanted to clean anything they were going to charge me $35 :(

CCleaner is really good, simple, and free.

Thanks Drak. I dl'ed it and ran the registry cleaner and found over 500 items that were bad. Deleted them all and now my system start-up seems to run MUCH faster....

CCleaner is great, it can also wipe out files (rewrite + delete) that has sensitive information so it won't be recovered. I.e. if you have customer files and confidential information.

Glary Utilities also a good one

I set it up so it doesn't remove my passwords, look in options and save those cookies you have the password in.

my ccleaner is set up like that too.
ill save all those and usually delete the cookies every other month
