In my opinion it's the best one out there. It was the first time Wolverine was put in his own solo book. Not only that, but it really revolutionized the character of Wolverine. Before this, he was the little crazy guy on the x-men that liked to kill people, and would always leap head first into fights, usually getting batted out of the way fairly quickly.
Claremont expanded on the Japanese angle with Wolverine, painting him as a fallen Samurai, and showing him actually trying to controll his animalistic rages. And also showing that Wolverine was a man of skill, not just a brawler which claws. Basically he's the opposite as he's written in comics now.
It was also the first time he ever said his chatchfrase "I'm the best there is at what I do....but what I do isn't very nice."
Not only that, I like it because he's not uber powerfull like he is now (no healing back from a mere skeleton like he does now).
Also if you haven't read it, Origin is a good one too.
