The Hollywood Reporter says that The Time Traveler's Wife helmer Robert Schwentke is in talks to direct Summit Entertainment thriller Red.

Starring Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman, the film was written by Erich and Jon Hoeber and is based on the WildStorm/DC Comic.

The spy film follows a former black-ops agent forced out of retirement when a high-tech assassin threatens him and his girlfriend.

Looking forward to this, I love the genre and Willis and Freeman are two of my favourite actors. I've only seen one Schwentke movie (Flightplan) but i liked his style.

Heat Vision reports that John C. Reilly and Mary-Louise Parker are in talks to join the cast of Red, Summit Entertainment's adaptation of the Wildstorm/DC Comics miniseries being directed by Robert Schwentke.

The film is about former black-ops agent (Bruce Willis), now in retirement, who has to contend with younger, more high-tech assassins who show up to kill him.

Reilly would play a retired CIA agent who is paranoid that everyone is out to kill him.

Parker would play the romantic interest, a federal pension worker who becomes embroiled in the Willis character's struggle to stay alive.

Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren already are on board for the film, being produced by Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian.

DC's Gregory Noveck executive produces with Jake Myers. Jon and Erich Hoeber wrote the script.

I wonder what role Morgan Freeman will play, I'm guessing his handler or something.

"Red" was originally written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Cully Hamner. The three-book series, published in 2003 and 2004, tells the story of a former black-ops CIA agent

now living a quiet life in retirement until the day a high-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him.

McMahon would play a Vice President with a dark side who is at the center of a shadow conspiracy. Borgnine will play the keeper of the CIA's darkest records, while Dreyfuss will be a wealthy man who builds a fortune out of lucrative government contracts. Cox is a former Cold War spy and nemesis of Willis.

The cast also includes Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John C. Reilly and Mary Louise Parker.

Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing, while DC's Gregory Noveck executive produces with Jake Myers. Jon and Erich Hoeber wrote the script. The film is scheduled to begin shooting early next year.

This is amassing a quality cast.

Quite a cast. Gonna read the comic soon.

Just read the comic. They have really expanded the plot on this film. The comic is just a really quick revenge action. Would have been like a 60-70 minute flick. I would have been fine with that, but I am interested to see what they do with this movie.

Damn, I've got that comic..somewhere. It's good, short but good.

John C. Reily is my favorite-ist actor ever.

Morgan Freemen gets kind of typecast over the last 20 years or so, but thas cool. Everybody like Bruce.

Morgan Freeman must owe his soul to WB/DC Comics, and I love it...

John Malkovich Replaces John C. Reilly in Red

Source:Variety
January 11, 2010

Variety reports that John Malkovich has replaced John C. Reilly in Summit Entertainment's comic book adaptation Red, based on the WildStorm/DC title.

He's joining a cast that includes Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Mary-Louise Parker, Julian McMahon, Ernest Borgnine, Richard Dreyfuss, Brian Cox and James Remar. Directed by Robert Schwentke, the film was written by Erich and Jon Hoeber.

In b>Red, former black-ops CIA agent Frank Moses is now living a quiet life. That is, until the day a hi-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him. With his secret identity compromised and his love interest in danger, Frank must reassemble his old team to figure out who is out to get them.

The film will start shooting in Toronto and Louisiana this month for a fall release. Malkovich's casting would not interfere with him possibly playing the Vulture in Spider-Man 4.

John McClane vs. Cyrus the damn Virus! YES! Incredibly happy at this news. Red has moved up a couple of notches for me now.

serious, this must be the greatest script of all time if all these actors are involved.

This could either turn out good/great ( Die Hard) or bomb hard like the surrogates which also was based on a graphic novel.

lmao this looks awesome!

never heard of the comic though

Awesome cast..

but, shouldn't this be in the DC Films section?

This movie reminds me of "The Losers" except everyone's retired.

Uhhh....WOW. What was the point of even adapting the comic if the movie bares literally no resemblance to the comic at all? Seriously. There is literally nothing from the comic besides one or two elements. They should've just named it something else. And the thing is, it looks like it could be a good movie, but this really had no reason to be named after the comic.

What the ****? No, seriously... WHAT THE ****? Why get the rights to adapt "Red" if you're gonna make something like this? I don't care if it turns out being good/funny or whatever... this is some ******** right here.

Should definitely call it something else
