A buddy of mine turned me on to this allegation, and being a Chili Peppers fan, this kind of hurts . . . .

I must admit that the first time I heard the new Chili Peppers, something in the back of my head registered this to some degree . . . just listen and weep

I know, I know . . . doesn't make it right though . . .

I would also like to make it clear that I'm not saying by any means that this was intentional on their part . . . could have been a Freudian slip of sorts . . . music is so inherently cerebral and innate that this could have been a purely subliminal happening of coincidence . . .

me too!! I definitely like RHCP more than Tom Petty, who constantly rips off Bob Dylan, who is the real victim here

Still, once in a while I'll hear a song, and go . . . . that's just an instant hit; and more often than not, it's due to one of these strange 'rip-offs', or coincidences . . .

I wondered why that song sounded familiar to me. It's not the first time the Peppers did something that wasn't theirs though.

I'll be honest that it could be an coincedence because I'm a musician and I've done it before. I'll be playing a bass line and my guitarist will play along w/ me and we realize that it sounds familiar about 10 minutes later. We don't use the riff, but it's not hard to do at all. Given the structure of the Chili Peppers' song and how different the overall song is, I could see this going completely unnoticed by anyone and being an honest mistake.

Or they ripped Tom Petty off. Whatever. Stadium Arcadium kicks ass.

and it's nothing new, the flaming lips' "fight test" had a similar problem with a cat stevens song "father and son"

I don't think the Chilis are sounding like they are repeating themselves. Early RHCPs sounds nothing like there new stuff (although it is awesome)
