Amanda Seyfried confirmed Sunday on the Oscars' red carpet that she will next star in Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke's The Girl With the Red Riding Hood at Warner Bros. Pictures.

Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way is behind the Gothic reimagining of "Little Red Riding Hood." The most-known version of the story was published in the 19th century by the Brothers Grimm. Earlier oral versions of the tale are far darker.

The script was written by David Leslie Johnson.

Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way is developing a Gothic reimagining of "Little Red Riding Hood" with screenwriter David Leslie Johnson, says Variety.

The project has been developed internally at Appian Way but is not a possible acting vehicle for DiCaprio.

The most-known version of the story was published in the 19th century by the Brothers Grimm. Earlier oral versions of the tale are far darker.

I think this actually has potential. I can't recall a film version and the story itself has a long and interesting history.

Some recent pictures from set

Gary Oldman (he plays the werewolf hunter)

"Lightning Bolt, lightning bolt, lightning Bolt!"

Can't wait for this one. Hopefully the effects for the wolf are good.

My God, Gary Oldman makes wearing purple badass.

yeah lets hope this doesn't come out looks like a big emo rock music video like hardwicks twilight did.

As I recall, in the original German version of the fairy tale, Red gets dead. I wonder if they will actually go in that direction.

My God, Gary Oldman makes wearing purple badass.

It's kind of cool for him that he gets to wear a lot of purple like that. I remember seeing him interviewed on the red carpet for the premier of TDK and he was saying as a kid he used to dress up as the Joker a lot. :awesome:

Whoa really?? Then he must love this. :awesome:

And Oldman and the Joker? Ah, man Bale and Oldman could have made great Joker's. :awesome:

Why is Sirius Black dressed like Dumbledore:awesome:

I love fairy tales, this could be sooo much fun! But I absolutely hate when they cast young adults in kids roles because they think it will get them a larger amount of viewers. Transformers, Alice in Wonderland, Percy Jackson. I would much prefer this if a little girl were in the lead role. I can't wait until Michael Bay casts some 25 year olds as Hansel and Gretel:dry:

This movie could be good but it's iffy given it has a mediocre director. But it is bound to be better than Bay's action oriented Hansel and Gretel.

First look and a quote from Hardwicke from a scan of the latest issue of EW.
“Amanda Seyfried dons the cape for Red Riding Hood. In a dark retelling of the famous children’s tale (out March 11, 2011), Seyfried stars as Valerie, a village girl torn between two loves (including Peter, left, played by Jericho’s Shiloh Fernandez). “I’ve never seen her like this in a role before,” raves director Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight). “She’s super sexy, wild. And those big eyes of hers are totally out of a fairy tale.” The threat of demons and werewolves further complications the love triangle, along with a priest (Gary Oldman) obsessed with ridding his village of evil, and townspeople hiding their own secrets and lies. “There’s a strong whodunit through the whole thing,” says Hardwicke. “So it’s got the weird, interesting parts of Grimm’s fairy tale and then so much more.”

I won't be shocked if Gary does his best non-Stansfield voice as the werewolf hunter.

I wish they kept the original title but I'm looking forward to it.

Looking forward to it too, it doesn't have a bad cast and it's interesting that they have added demons into the story now too.

[YT]4TtWOAPHzrs[/YT]Seems like it's basically just Twilight with a slightly more proactive Bella

Yeah, it does pretty much look like Twilight.

But hey, Gary Oldman is in this. If this movie sucks, he certainly won't. I do like the who done it thing with the wolf though.

Yea, it does look like Twilight but I'll give it a chance. It looks like it has some intriguing elements that could make it a better movie.

Hopefully we get a better trailer.
