Despite confusion over Game Informer's latest Red Steel impression, Ubisoft has revealed that a redesign of the game's mechanics is in development. The E3 build of the game was harshly criticized for its poor swordplay controls, and Ubisoft Paris has appeared to take notice of those complaints.

According to French press sources, the development team is hard at work refining a number of Red Steel's elements, specifically the sword-fighting, which Ubisoft admitted was difficult to program. Thankfully, the team likely has several months before Nintendo comes calling for the final build, unless the title slips out of the Wii launch window -- in that case, Ubisoft would have all the time in the world...

This doesn't fill me with confidence in the wii...

It's Ubisoft that's the problem, not the Wii.

They should just remove the sword play from the game entirely. I was always more interested in the gunplay. Save the sword play for a Star Wars game.

Bingo. Not sure how they would manage to pull off the resistance of two lightsabers against each other, but the prospect of a Star Wars Wii game is orgasmic.

rumble feature.

and this is old news.

time crisis with a sword... mark my words. the only difference is that it's not a rail shooter.

The Nintendo fans were saying it controlled amazingly at E3.

Oh no way in hell I would say that about the controls, just watching the video made you think "sensitivity= -8"

I wasn't at E3, but my brother was. And although he didn't get the chance to play RS, he stood around watching others play. The game was very sensitive to your movements, and it looked like it played very smoothly. The only problem was that the swordplay relied on combos to execute attacks; it wasn't a 1 to 1 interface.

I didn't used to be such a Nintendo fan, but after E3, there's no doubt in my mind that Nintendo is really onto something. I think they will make the best games.

Bump.

3 Red Steel Blogs touch on changing the look and feel of the game:

WHy are the pictures so wide Mr. Freeman?

its just those 2 showing the whole room

I think the gunplay would be cool, but the sword play will not work on this system, NO swordplay will. It will feel WAYY to unnatural. Swinging the sword will be no problem, but once u make contact, nothing, except maybe a slight buzz. Im sorry, but a little buzzing does NOT feel like two solid objects are connecting. Itll be just like a bass fishing game, its great UNTIL u catch a fish and realize that the rumble, in NO WAY feels like you are catching a real fish. Overall the game looks cool.

you know why this game is going to blow, in my opinion?

first, because as badass as your guy looks on screen holding his gun sideways or whatever, you're still holding what is shaped like a remote control... not a gun. how cool could that possibly be cool? it'd be like channel surfing really fast. they need a gun-shaped periphral (sp?)

secondly, how can the swordplay be good? you swing your sword and do some nice little maneuver, and either (a) the guy you're fighting on screen blocks it, but your arm in real life keeps moving... so, your sword onscreen goes through his sword, meaning crappy collision detection, or (b) he does block it, meaning you arm in real life and your arm onscreen will be out of sinc... equaling buggy and jumpy gameplay.

this is probably what they're trying to "fix" but i don't see a way around that problem.

Ignoring that, this game will probably be more fun than 99% of the generic ass looking first person shooters xbox360 and pc will be getting over the next 5-6 years, sadly.

are you serious?

i never expected you to say something like that.

(i'm a bit behind on my games forum gossip, you are DRT, right?)

1st, there is a gun shell in the works
2nd, I don't know how it could possibly be less cool looking holding the wiimote than a regular controller. There really is no damn difference.
