They bette pick a date quick. Slots are filling up for 2012.

summer is pretty much all booked

i can definately see Wolverine coming out in December around the time the new Superman movie is suppose to come out

Definitely around the Holidays. Summer is crowded.

I'm really surprised it doesn't have a release date yet. I read somewhere recently that it was being released "winter 2012" - don't know how anyone would know that, but that's what is said. Here are the release dates so far for 2012 per boxofficemojo.com.

April
• The Pirates (3D) (Sony) - 4/6

May
• The Avengers (2012) (BV) - 5/4
• Battleship (Uni.) - 5/18
• Madagascar 3 (working title) (P/DW) - 5/18
• MIB 3 (in 3-D) (Sony) - 5/25

June

• Untitled Judd Apatow Comedy (Uni.) - 6/1
• John Carter of Mars (BV) - 6/8
• Brave (BV) - 6/15
• Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (Fox) - 6/22
• Untitled Star Trek Sequel (Par.) - 6/29

July
• Spider-Man (in 3D) (Sony) - 7/3
• Ice Age: Continental Drift (in 3-D) (tentative title) (Fox) - 7/13
• Batman 3 (WB) - 7/20

August
• The Bourne Legacy (Uni.) - 8/3

September
• Hotel Transylvania (in 3D) (Sony) - 9/21

November

December
• Life of Pi (Fox) - 12/14
• Snow White and the Huntsman (Uni.) - 12/21

They should release it in December i don't think they will have much competition

I'm thinking November or December 2012. Pretty unusual for its genre but summer is just so packed.

Actually, the only competition in June is Star Trek. It could easily open any other weekend in June.

So is the new Superman movie.
I think WB said the holiday season so it could be for November but I could be wrong.
If Fox wants this for the summer there best choice is 6/1. MIB3 opens the week before but it is having script problems even if it is a good film and does well at the box office it is only one film. I can't see Battleship being a huge blockbuster hit. Madagasscarr 3 should be a sold hit but different audience. The week after JCOM could do very well at the box office so there is some worry there. Than 2 weeks you have Pixar's Brave which should do well like all of Pixar's films. Than you have Star Trek and Spider Man 3 weeks after.
May would be great if the avengers did open the first wek in May because the 2nd weekend is open but the avengers should make around 300m. Plus, it would be wise to have a comic book film a week after.
July 27 is open but TDKR opens the week before not wise to open after it epically another comic book movie. Also in july there is Spider Man and at the end of June Star Trek II.
August 10th is open but summer is ending so I am not sure if Fox wants their blockbuster opening when school is starting up soon but the only positive thing would be there would be very little competition.
For November if Bound did not take 11/9 I would say that would be a great release date. November is getting packed, so Fox needs to make a decision when they will release it.

The X-Men movies are summer movies, they always have been. Fox isn't going to change that, they have been finacially successful for four movies (X-Men: First Class will most likely make it five).

March would be a good enough release.

March 2012 is already too stuffed.

Fox also seemingly has their summer slate full with Ice Age: Continental Drift, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Prometheus. If either of the latter two vacate their slots, the Wolverine sequel could easily take their place.

My hunch is Fox slides it over to 2013.

Its gonna be Fall/Winter 2012.

Let's not forget this is an Aronofsky film first and foremost. Its not being made (or budgeted) as the usual summer action movie. This is more in the vain of The Fountain than any Marvel/DC comic book movie. I'm sure the budget won't exceed a hundred million and that the studio doesn't expect a huge return. Darren has never cared about money and I wouldn't be surprised if the agreement between him and Fox was based solely on Darren delivering another 2 hour masterpiece rather than a popcorn blockbuster. Darren never would have agreed to that. Where this to be released in the summer, Darren would technically be competing in the box office race that takes place every year. This guy could care less about that. We're finally getting a Wolverine film with a heart. An arthouse picture starring Wolverine. Life just doesn't get any better.

With Aronofsky comes more than just money. Wolverine might actually make it to awards season 2013 :yay: and most auteur pictures are released in the winter (in time for awards season).

wow. just hearing your expectations has gotten me excite about this.

i mean since marvel is taking over the comic book genre and the nolan is only doing one more bat film. i lose faith the in x movies.

but first class and wolverine look more promising now.

have you seen the "wolverine vs the hand" flash trailer on the net? what's your take on it? is that what darren will do with wolverine?

or and when do you think you will be done with your fancut of orgins?

What is your opinion on darren saying that his film will having nothing to do with the previous x movies. is this gonna be like the new ghost rider film? a reboot starring hugh. i mean how will he make this film visually different so that its obvious that its a reboot. oh and if it does very well should they make this a trilogy like the bat films?

It won't be a direct influence, but the manga element is definitely something Darren was attracted to. I feel like he saw Claremont's miniseries as manga more than mainstream comic. Add to that the loner element that Jackman established for the character and you get something really close to Darren's style.

Dude, I last worked on it earlier in the week and I'm not far from a finished cut. Right now I'm doing some dialogue adjustments for Logan's neighbor in the film. Got a guy that works at a local gunshop near my house to record the dialogue for me. He sounds like Mickey Rourke :yay: the character's name is Blaine, and he's probably Logan's closest friend.

The great thing about this kind of reboot is that its not a pronounced reboot. Its basically a story that doesn't need to cover his origin because it has nothing to do with his origin. Pretend you're watching The Wrestler. When it starts you're only given a small glimpse at who Randy was with pictures from his prime, but it is never explained or shown how Randy went from stardom to working in a supermarket. The same can be applied here. We start with Logan in a cage. He's an indestructible loner that's fallen for a woman completely out of his reach. That's all.

There's no need to explain the claws, the adamantium, the hair/beard, nothing. The word "mutant" doesn't even need to be acknowledged.

People that know nothing about Wolverine, and there will be many just watching it because its an Aronofsky film, won't care or need to know about his origin. All they need to know is that he's a strong, antiheroic warrior that doesn't know when to quit. The above statement can be applied to both Randy "The Ram" and Tom/Tomas from The Fountain.

As for a sequel, I highly doubt Darren will want one. Jackman will want to continue playing the character though, specially after the critical acclaim it'll earn him next year. It'll be the definitive Wolverine film though, so even though we'd love another one, we won't need one.

I don't think we'll see Logan for a while after The Wolverine. If Lauren Donner somehow convinces the studio to finance a [very expensive] Days of Future Past X-Men movie, we'll see Logan again. But Darren won't be directing.

sorry to rush with the fancut. i just hate orgins so much. but i'm such a big wolverine fan.

Great analysis. you are a true wolverine fan. you clearly see what is wrong with orgins and are trying to fix it. i'm glad. this flash trailer, your cut of orgins will hold us over until wolverine arrives in a year.

well we will probably get a first class trilogy but maybe if the movie does dark knight numbers he will want to do what chris nolan did and direct 2 more. but i agree. orgins kinda messed up things.

had they did things correctly we would have a wolverine trilogy but i agree after The Wolverine we won't see logan for a while.

i say put hugh (logan) in a 2010 modern realistic japan like they did with the anime. have you seen it?

and make logan a wanderer like he was in x1. remove the MUTANT aspect of things. mutants don't exist in this universe. make it more real. logan-wolverine is a man of mystery who has healing powers and claws and we don't know why and he doesn't either. no dog tags. no x1 or x2 weapon x footage. no stryker. no nightmares. not team x stuff. no sabertooth.

we learn that he was a random experinment gone wrong by mad scientists and he was basically a random victim. similar to the last samurai, he is a man looking for meaning in his life and is lost.

and we could possibly get a more accurate to the comic weapon x flashback. x1 & x2 put him in a water tank/operating table. in the comic he had tubes in his body. he looked like one borg cybrogs from star trek TNG.

and the script makes the movie start out like batman begins and he gets taken out of jail and that's where the adventure begins.

my far is this. will The Wolverine have a formidable nemesis?

i mean that has been my only complaint. Wolverine has a nice rogues gallery of villians. in x1 he fought sabertooth but it wasn't a great battle and it was too short. in x2 he fights death strike but that too was too short. in x3 he slahes up morlocks.

but we need to see a formidable villian in The Wolverine. the flash trailer shows logan battling lots of deadly ninjas and a samurai at the end.

basically in the comic wolverine goes to japan to rekindle a romance with a japanese woman. and he gets his ass kicked by an old bald man with a sword. he has a series of skrimishes with ninjas and a woman helps logan out and fights along side him. and he has to train and then he confronts the man who kicked his ass and logan defeats him.

so i wonder what darren will add to the story to make it more interesting. there must be other themes there. the action is there but what's the film about? Redemption? Honor? Egos?

i'm sure darren will do things right but how will he do it.
