I always thought Ant-Man would be the last project on Marvel Studio's "Phase 2" before Avengers 2, with Captain America 2 and GOTG being released in 2014, my prediction was Ant-Man being released in April/May 2015, then Avengers 2 in July. But now the release date for The Avengers 2 is set for May 2015, where does it leave Ant-Man at?

If they manage to release the film before The Avengers 2, the timetable should be quite intense. It has to be in 2014 since there's no more space in 2015 before Avengers 2, and since summer 2014 is basically full (Marvel Studio's projects are not the only things going on after all), winter 2014 is eyed, my guess would be November...but can Marvel really capable of releasing 3 movies in one year?

I won't be surprise if they eventually decide to put Ant-Man after Avengers 2, for what we've heard so far this is a quite complex film, all they have been saying was that Disney likes the idea and green-lighted the project, yet no words for production plan what so ever (remind me if I am wrong).

In this case, the story would need to move on from the event of Avengers 2 (I reckon it's pointless to show his origin after appearing in the cross-over? Fans should be more interested in "what's next" rather than "what happened"). If that's the case, the Ant-Man movie should be count as Phase 3 in stead of phase 2.

Anyhow I really like the idea of introducing Ant-Man, and he is indeed a very important member for The Avengers, I just hope they can start the project as soon as possible

Conventional wisdom puts Ant-Man as a third movie in 2014, and Feige has said as much. It's still very much dependent on when Wright finally gets around to it, of course.

I'm hoping it will be included on Phase 2.

Now that the Avengers 2 finally has a release date, I think the best release month for Ant-Man is either November of 2014 or February or March of 2015. And they could attach a preview of the Avengers 2 after the credits just like with what they did on Captain America for the Avengers 1.

Ant-Man doesn't have to be released in Summer. Neither Thor 2 or Cap 2 are Summer movies. November 7, 2014 sounds plausible (1 year after Thor: The Dark World.)

I also hope that Ant Man is in Phase 2. I'm doubtful that there will even be a phase 3 (it'd probably be too much of a pain to renew all of the actors' contracts and stuff) so it's kinda now or never.

Also I agree with the idea that this movie doesn't need to be a summer release, it strikes me as more of something that would come out around the holidays anyway. Plus summer is too competitive of a movie season I'd say so it's better to leave the heavy hitters like Cap and the Guardians for that slot.

Um...what?

Almost all actors are signed on for six films...there will be a phase 3.

Downey's is set to expire and I'm pretty sure samuel l's must have some milage.

They'll resign Downey to two more films; I guarantee it.

As for Fury, they'll probably kill him off and replace him with Maria Hill when his contract runs out.

I agree with Kang, Phase 3 is a done deal. This gravy train has too much steam to stop now. Or soon for that matter. Or later for that matter. Steamy gravy steam. mmmm...

Evans and Hemsworth still have 4 films a piece, Ruffalo has 5, Johansen has either 3 or 4, Renner has 3 or 4, Smulders has 6, Jackson has 4, Cheadle has 2, Stan has 4, Hiddleston has 3...there's nothing to resign. I'm sure who is being brought in for Ant-Man will at least sign up for 3-5, and that whoever is brought in for Guardians of the Galaxy will sign up for several pictures as well.

Downey Jr will resign, it will just be a matter of bringing enough money to the table, and how they'll go about it (Downey will want to sign up for a film at a time, so he can constantly renegotiate, where as Marvel will want to sign him up for 2-3 more films.)

Though the central cast will be gone (Evans, Downey, Hemsworth) Ruffalo's contract will likely go past Avengers 3, as will Stan's, and whoever gets signed up for new phase 2 and 3 movies. Not only will they be able to do a Phase 3, they'll probably be able to squeeze out a phase 4 before heavy recasting begins.

Or they could just resign him. Far as I've heard, he hasn't exactly been paid megabucks for the cameo roles.

Ant-Man is the third movie in 2014 as Kevin Feige has said

But Downey is going to ask for a LOT of momey which I'm not sure Marvel will be super willing to cough up. They even talked about replacing him "James Bond style". I really hope he stays but that would depend on a lot.

As far as Fury goes, I don't like the idea of them killing him off on screen. If they want to get rid of him, they should have him disappear or he goes on a mission and never returns.

Do you have a link to prove this because I can't find it anywhere.

My guess is that Ant Man will come out around March/April 2015 and the end of that movie will be the beginning of Avengers 2.

I think they'll come to some agreement. Marvel needs Downey, and quite frankly, Downey isn't going to make $50 M for playing anything other than Tony Stark; 10-20 M, sure. But not $50 M. At the very least, I'm sure they'll work something out for A2.

Sam Jackson signed a 9-film contract, with most reports saying starting with Iron Man 2. That means he has shown up in 3 films out of those 9, leaving him with 6 to go.

Feige never confirmed that Ant-Man is certainly going to be a third film in 2014, but he did state that if Edgar Wright's timing works out, it could "possibly force them to make three films in a year", that year most likely being 2014.

Once an actor's contract has ended, is that it for good? Or can they renew it?

OOOh my mistake, I counted Iron Man 1...the rest was shaky math I guess.

They can renew it. It is basically just a guarantee that they will be making that amount of films - both they need to commit, as do the studio (in theory). So, if after 9 films the studio still wants to make movies with Jackson as Nick Fury, and he still wants to do it, then they'll sort out another contract.

I doubt it, I think we will probably see Fury get kicked out of SHIELD with Maria Hill taking over... Cobie Smulders has also signed a 9 movie contract deal with Marve,...

I think we most likely see Fury go into hiding, only coming out to pass some info or recruit heroes for a mission...

But I think they will leave a hint that Fury is indeed alive, but that his just hiding never killing him off...

It's not a guarantee at all, it's a "just in case" so they don't have to renegotiate and end up paying more $$$. But they might not use the actor that many times.

But yes, if the options are used up and if the studio wants the actor back and if the actor wants to come back, then they'll renegotiate.

Exactly Moridin

Its called contract options which is a standard practise for any Hollywood blockbuster with franchise potenial over the last decade.

Actors sign contracts for multiple sequels so that if the movie is successful the actors don't demand a huge pay hike to return in the sequel.

If an actor signs a 9 movie deal that doen't necessarily mean that an actor will appear in nine movies. Its very much at the movie studios discretion.

Not seeing this happening. For one, Jackson still has a fairly large number of appearances left on his contract. For another, even the unused ending of Avengers had Nick Fury not being fired.

Wasn't saying it would happen in the next film... I'm talking about sometime in future, Sam is already 63 years old, Marvel will have to position the character in a way that won't require him to partake in some action scenes.

Having Fury not only discharged from SHIELD, but also having to go into hiding, because he becomes a wanted man for whatever reason, could be way to write him out the story. While also giving Marvel the opportunity to have him make sporadic appearances in any bodies film, to get them to do something.

This is actually more inline with comics, has Fury got discharged from SHIELD and had to go into hiding on numerous occasions as a number of international organizations and governments wanted his head!
