I was hoping for some clean debate here. This may be deemed as baiting but I'll give it a shot.

I saw this on another forum.

I think it is unbelievable. I can respect another person's religion, but I can't really understand how he comes to these bizarre conclusions. Do any of the christian posters look at games like this?

The guy is entitled to his opinion, but the way he analyzes games just seems like he's connecting a series of dots.

Like I said I hope if people look at this they'll keep things clean, regardless of stance.

At the very least its a chuckle.

The "proper" games are reviewed about half way down.

The thought didn't even cross my mind! Lol.

I don't know though... who'd waste THAT much time?

The Christian Bale rant came out yesterday and by mid-day there was already like 3 remixes of it. People on the internet have more than enough time to waste and they do so with gusto.

In a word, NO. Those types of ppl are a small minority. I'm a Christian, most of my friends are, my family is, none of us would ever say "Doom is bad because it was made by an Atheist". Hell my cousin is a pastor and he was the one who first showed me Resident Evil. Iv met a few ppl like that, you just have to feel sorry for them because they have the faith all twisted. It happens in just about every religion tho.

I don't know, that Heaven game looks kind of interesting. I never figured Heaven would be so shiny or have women in bustiers.

This is hilarious, reminds me of the book "Saturday Morning Mind Control". It has a section on what cartoons should be avoided due to possible "un-christian" values.

I don't mock people for wanting to protect their minds from dark or violent thoughts, regardless of how fictional they may be. I think they can be jerks about it at times, but if that's what they want to do, it's still a free country. They don't HAVE to watch cartoons and play video games if they don't want to.

They don't have to preach about it or try to make it more difficult for those that do, either. That's when I take issue with the hyper-religious folks--when they start pushing for greater oversight and the stifling of creativity in entertainment.

I'm not really what most would consider a "moderate" Christian (I fall on the more conservative end of the spectrum), but I couldn't help but LOL at almost everything I read there. This website rests securely within the "fringe" category of Christianity

I personally feel like bible-themed kitsch-- which is what almost all "Christian games" are-- do more damage to Christianity's reputation than they do to help it. I am a Christian artist, and one of the biggest problems I see within Christianity is that it's hard for artists who are Christians to be taken seriously by critics, and cheap crap like this is a reason why. I consider myself to be a Christian who makes art, not a "Christian Artist," because that implies that so-called "secular art" is inherently un-Christian, a concept that this website seems to push unquestioningly.

I also LOL'ed at how they claimed that Tetris is a Soviet mind control program. Even the most conservative Christians within my social circle would have a hard LOL at that! :lmao:

Oh yea, just do a quick google search, ALL kinds of sites like these will pop up. Iv seen one where they slammed any game if an African American wasnt featured in a dominating role.

A lot (not all, or even most) of religious people let their religion define them, and want it to permeate every aspect of their life. It usually leads to stuff like this, and occasionally more extreme things.

I think the problem is that people have a misconception about how their religion should define them. My religion defines me, but not in that I feel an OCD urge to slap a cross on everything I own the way some people do. Allowing your Christianity to be expressed through your life doesn't have to be overtly religious in nature. Because I am Christian, whatever art I make is going to have my worldviews as a Christian reflected in it, even if I'm not directly referencing my faith.

However, a lot of people feel like to be a good Christian, art is a waste of time unless it openly declares itself as religious rather than secular, and is made and marketed towards Christians. This website, and others like it, seem to insist that if something was not made for the Christian market, it's bad. And that bodes very well for the people who make kitschy religious-themed products, because they automatically have a market who won't buy anything that doesn't have a "Christian" label. It's "Christian consumerism," which frankly is a load of crap.

I've written several papers on this topic for school, and this type of website is the exact kind of people I almost always found myself complaining about, and I've read several books by Christian authors that complain about this trend as well. These are perfectly content with mediocrity as long as it has a bible character of verse attached to it, even if whatever message it might have is shallow and does nothing to reach out to non-Christians.

I could go on for pages upon pages about this (which is what I did for school), but I think you get my drift-- "Christian products" are the result of consumerism, and the shunning of "secular art" by some Christians is the result of stubbornness. If something is good, it shouldn't matter whether or not you can find it in a Christian bookstore.

I'm glad this is staying clean. Some good posts.

I'm atheist, but some of my family are Christians, but I could never picture them deconstructing things in this way. My cousin used to love baiting the dogs in Medal of Honor with grenades the sicko.

I personally like the Metal Gear review. Accusing Snake of representing the devil, then tenuously linking his use of the iPod and APPLE to the temptation of Adam.

Like I said, I can respect peoples faiths, but crap like this makes it harder.

Hahah, I didn't even read that far. Pretty much everyone at my Church has an iPod. :lmao:

I wonder if the people who make that website are against eating apple pie, or taking their kids to the zoo to look at snakes... Or, heaven forbid, eating apple pie at the zoo, next to the snake exhibit. :wow:

Its a very old joke site. It has actually gotten rather large since I last saw it. Good to see they still have the article up about them discovering a living dinosaur and thus disproving evolution.

So it's not real? That's a major relief. I suppose it's pretty sad though that I could believe it was real (but then again I didn't really read that much of it.)

Unbelievable. Some one please tell me that people can't be this deluded? PLEASE!!!

The way he talks about video games desensitizing people to murder and violence in his Doom "review" it's like that is a proven fact. People like him deserve a slap for being completely brain washed. That's what has happened to him and his ilk, they are brain washed.
