Renaissance is a French-language animated "Cyberpunk"/science-fiction detective movie, co-produced in France, United Kingdom and Luxembourg, directed by Christian Volckman and released on March 15 2006 in France and September 22 2006 in film in USA by Miramax Films. The movie uses the motion capture technique to create a 3D universe, its quirkyness coming from the fact it is entirely black and white (except some few elements in color at the end of the movie). It shares some resemblance in looks with the Sin City comic books.

The action takes place in Paris in 2054. The expressways along the Seine river are enclosed in glass tunnels and huge lofts seem to float in the night. Ilona Tasuiev, a young scientist and employee of the powerful Avalon conglomerate, is kidnapped for reasons unknown. Inspector Karas is leading the search...

Trailer

Voices are being done by Daniel Craig, Catherine McCormack, Jonathan Pryce and Ian Holm in the English version.

Wow.. that looks pretty good, I'll have to check this out.

I love the look/style of it.

 Just got around to seeing this trailer,Damn does it look awesome:up:

I cannot wait until this film comes out

I saw this yesterday, I didn't even know it was out over here. Anyway, I really enjoyed it. Visually it was amazing, the voiceovers were well done and the storyline was great. I highly recommend it for when it comes out in the US.

Incase anyone's interested... there's a contest running now for a chance to win a poster / press book signed by director Christian Volckman for Renaissance. It's pretty badass, check it...

Check out the contest here.

I am definitely seeing this bad boy. :D

it dosnt really look much like a scanner darkly, and the style was around before a scanner darkly anyway

I saw this last Saturday at Helsinki International Film Festival. I thought it was quite good. It has one of the best car chase scenes I've ever seen. One thing I didn't like was the movement of the characters. Sometimes they moved like 90's cgi-characters (i.e. Reboot tv-series).

You're missing the point, both are a stylized animated cyberpunk film.

When's the movie come out? The trailer just says coming soon.

Saw this movie recently on Sky T.V thought it was excellent, people should check this out.

I was thinking of buying this or at the very least renting it.

definatly do I LOVE this movie!!! shame its not very known about, the visuals still astound me

It came out recently and I recommend it. It's jarring at first since the images are quite bright and can be hard to tell what's going on at point because of the animation, but when it takes off, it delivers quite well. I really liked it
