Ambitious stealth game République has a long way to go before meeting its Kickstarter goal of $500,000 in its last eight days, but it hasn't stopped the folks at Camouflaj from adding some big names to the game's cast. Today's update reveals both David Hayter and Jennifer Hale will contribute their vocal talents.

"Hayter will play the role of the head revolutionary in the world of République, and Hale will voice the role of 'The Mentor' – a complex character who knows Hope better than anyone," the Kickstarter page reveals. Hayter is probably best known for voicing Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid games, while Jennifer Hale was the voice behind the female Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect series and every other speaking female in video games ever. Republique Hits iOS on December 19, PC in 2014

The Kickstarter-backed iOS game Republique finally has a release date. Developer Camouflaj has revealed that the first episode will sneak onto the App Store on Thursday, December 19, with the PC version set to follow in early 2014. It was originally announced as a single game, but morphed into an episodic story throughout the course of development. Each episode will be priced at $5, but those who forked over a $10 Kickstarter pledge will get all of them for free. Expect future episodes to roll out in the coming months.
In Republique, players help a young woman named Hope escape the oppressive, totalitarian state that she’s been trapped in her whole life. The idea behind Republique is to bring AAA, console-style development to a handheld device. It’s inspired by stealth classics like Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell, and it also borrows survival horror elements from the original Resident Evil games. There’s also an all-star voice cast, including Solid Snake David Hayter and the female Commander Shepard Jennifer Hale. They even used state-of-the-art motion capture to bring the characters to life, and you can learn more about that by clicking here.

Republique: a one-touch stealth game designed by its worst enemies

DSC00487.JPG
Ryan Payton's earnest story of Republique's formative days – roughly 600 of them – has a surprising villain. "When you have a vision, sometimes things just don't work out," said Payton, a co-founder of developer Camouflaj. For its first 500 nights of life, Republique, the one-touch stealth game for tablets and phones, just wasn't coming together.
Speaking to attendees at the Game Developers Conference, Payton described a frustrating time in which his team of 25 game makers struggled to reach their publicized (and Kickstarted) vision of Republique. It was to be a tense but accessible game, hinged on players guiding a woman out of a cell and away from an intrusive, spying regime. Its forced simplicity led to complications, however, putting its mechanics in conflict with everything from level design to lazy touchscreen swipes. But conflict also helped Republique find its footing.
"We decided that we were just going to become the game's worst enemy," Payton said. "We started to bash the game really hardcore." The team got serious about playtesting, and carefully monitored how people were naturally inclined to interact with the game, rather than how Camouflaj decreed in its one-touch vision. "We watched how players were playing the game, and we met them halfway," Payton said. And lazy, misread screen swipes? Camouflaj created its own version of aim assist, but for fingers.

Republique coming to PS4 in early 2016
Published 6 hours ago. 16 comments.
All five episodes coming in single release.

Republique-PS4-Ann.jpg

GungHo Online Entertainment will release all five episodes of the Camouflaj-developed action-adventure stealth game Republique for PlayStation 4 in a single package via retail at participating retail stores and via digital download in early 2016, the publisher announced.

The game tasks players with assisting a young woman named Hope escape from a totalitarian state. Players must guide her from the perspective of surveillance cameras, interacting with the environment in various ways to keep her out of danger.

According to GungHo, in the PlayStation 4 version “players finally take full control of Hope,” suggesting you’ll have more direct control over the character.

“Having been so inspired by early PlayStation titles, it’s with much joy and a touch of irony that the full Republique experience will arrive on PS4,” Camouflaj studio head Ryan Payton said in a press release. “I can’t thank GungHo enough for supporting our efforts to faithfully translate Republique into a true console experience.”

Republique episodes one, two, and three are currently available for PC, iOS, and Android. Episodes four and five are still to come.
Thanks, GameSpot.

Republique-Retail-Atlus-NISA.jpg

Atlus will distribute the retail PlayStation 4 version of stealth action game Republique from publisher GungHo Online Entertainment and developer Camouflaj in North America, and NIS America will distribute the retail version in Europe, GungHo Online announced. It will launch in early 2016 for $24.99 / CA$34.99.

Previously available on PC and mobile and released episodically, the PlayStation 4 version of Republique includes all five episodes in a complete package. The console version also lets players finally take full control of main character Hope.

Get the full fact sheet below.
About
Now that République is on PS4, players can finally take full control of Hope, a young woman held captive inside Metamorphosis, a shadowy totalitarian state ruled by the omnipresent Overseer. By hacking into this secret nation’s elaborate surveillance network, players and Hope begin a treacherous and thrilling journey to freedom.
Seattle-based Camouflaj developed the game and has received numerous awards including “Excellence in Storytelling” from the International Mobile Gaming Awards (IMGA). With a 87 percent Steam user rating, République’s reviews have been positive.
Although it was previously limited to PC and mobile, now PS4 players can look forward to experiencing the entire season—including the fifth and final episode—in one complete package.
Key Features

  • Hacking Gameplay – Throughout the game, Hope will seek the player’s support to help her escape and protect her in the process by gaining control of any network-enabled devices and overcoming puzzle scenarios along the way. Players can hack into security cameras, power down lights, wiretap calls, summon elevators, and slam doors on Hope’s pursuers.
  • Engaging Story – République is more than a stealth-action game. By creating a gameplay system that drives the symbiotic relationship between Hope and the player, players become more engaged as Hope’s protector. Aside from the main story, players can help Hope collect banned books, cassette tapes, and other unique items that will further immerse players in this futuristic dystopian world.
  • Developer Pedigree – République is developed by a team of veterans in the industry who worked behind AAA games such as Metal Gear Solid, Halo, F.E.A.R., and cutting edge videos such as the Skyrim television spot and iconic iPod “silhouette” ads. Players will also be able to eavesdrop on interactive developer commentary while playing the game.

Republique for PS4 launches March 22 in North America

PS4 version of Stealth game includes Gravity Rush outfit.

Republique-Dated-March-22.jpg

The PlayStation 4 version of Republique will launch in North America on March 22, developer Camoflaj announced. In Europe, the game is still set for a spring 2016 release.

The game will be released in both territories as a retail and download title, via Atlus in North America and NIS America and Europe. The standard edition will cost $39.99, and an NIS America Online Store-exclusive “Contraband Edition” is available for $44.99.

Over at the PlayStation Blog, Republique designer Paul Alexander detailed some of the PlayStation 4 version’s new features, including a collaboration costume for main character Hope:

  • Whereas the mobile release had a “one touch” control scheme, and the PC release had a hotkey-friendly mouse and keyboard control scheme, in the PlayStation 4 release, players now have full control of Hope.
  • Camoflaj built a cover system from scratch with new, motion-captured animations.
  • The fixed camera perspectives are a huge asset. The analog controls flow naturally from one perspective to the next without impeding player movement.
  • The “touch-friendly” OMNI hacking controls have transitioned to a button-focused solution using the DualShock 4.
  • Hope will have access to new and original outfits, including a Gravity Rush-themed outfit.

Republique
‘s free costume downloadable content will arrive day and date with the game’s launch on PlayStation 4, GungHo Online Entertainment announced.

The costumes will remain free from launch day, March 22, until April 4. All three outfits will be available in a single pack that includes the following:

  • The Kat-Inspired Outfit: Through a collaboration with Sony Computer Entertainment, the Kat-Inspired outfit pays homage to the PlayStation classic, Gravity Rush.
  • The Guard (Prizrak) Outfit: This outfit allows Hope to blend in and sneak by guards in plain sight. However, players still need to be careful not to get too close or perform suspicious activities (such as sneaking, stealing, or attacking other guards), as doing so will blow Hope’s cover. The Guard outfit also comes with a special Taser with an infinite amount of charges, but not every situation can be solved with force.
  • The Speedrun Outfit: A speedrunner’s dream, this outfit is great for outrunning guards and setting new records, as it increases Hope’s overall speed and displays a special on-screen timer that allows players to track their gameplay and episode completion times.
Republique is due out physically and digitally for PlayStation 4 on March 22 in North America (via Atlus) and March 25 in Europe (via NIS America) for $24.99.

EP Daily Rundown for March 22, 2016

Things are getting messy today. The Binding of Isaac might be getting a sequel, the makers of Rocket League have an update on cross-platform multiplayer between the Xbox One and PS4, Apple has some new gadgets on the way, the stealth game République and Rise of the Tomb Raider have come to an end, and finally, NASA has observed a supernova for the first time!

if you need something to play on the new iOS devices, or other platforms, check this out. The fifth and final episode of the stealth game Republique is now available on iOS and Android devices. If you’re not into mobile gaming, all five episodes are also launching today on the PS4 for the first time.

Republique follows the story of a young woman named Hope as she struggles to escape the Orwellian society that she’s lived in her whole life. The thing that makes the gameplay unique is that you don’t exactly control Hope, you aid her escape by manipulating the environment around her. The conclusion has been a long time coming. The the first chapter originally debuted in 2013, following a Kickstarter campaign that launched way back in 2012.

Lara Croft’s journey in Rise of the Tomb Raider is about to come to an end. The third and final piece of DLC for the game is set to hit the Xbox One and PC next week on March 29. It’s called Cold Darkness Awakened, and will see Lara travel to Siberia to explore a decommissioned Cold War weapons research base, which has unleashed a deadly virus that turns people into mindless killers. Basically, you’ll be fighting zombies in the snow. New outfits, weapons, and expedition cards are also included in the new missions. The Cold Darkness Awakened pack is part of the game’s $40 Season Pass. A standalone price has yet to be announced.
