Resident Evil 5 - (News, Spoilers, Thoughts and Ideas)

We need a total redo of this series, Casino Royale/Batman Begins style. :cmad:

- Get inside the mansion
- Get Chris, Jill, Barry, Wesker, the whole gang
- Give it the classic George A. Romero feel
- Tone down the Matrix action/sci-fi and make a HORROR film
- Look to S.D. Perry's novels as a guideline
- ^ Look to the first video game and "The Umbrella Conspiracy" novel

All of the ingredients are there for an AMAZING series. Between the video game and S.D. Perry's novel, the movie practically writes itself. The studio barely needs to put forth any effort.

Just give me more Tomandandy music and I'm set.

As a horror series some concepts can actually be quite tricky to put, Nemesis for example looks more like an action film enemy and a giant monster with a rocket launcher is a tricky concept to pull.

For a reboot they should either go with the original Resident Evil game and it's novels or Resident Evil 4

It doesn't have to be horror really. Resident Evil wasn't really that scary to begin with. And the games have already moved away from that aspect as well.

But I seriously doubt the RE movies will get a reboot anytime soon. Heck, we might not ever see anymore live action resident evil movies once these Paul Anderson ones are done. Sure they make money, but they aren't good movies by any means. The only movie that is actually decent is the first movie, and the sad thing is that its the movie that is least influenced by the games.

I like the thought of horror/action films with ninja style action

Revelations kinda did a throwback to that

Yeah, the original film was enjoyable, even with some of its problems, Paul Anderson basically used the same premiese of the mansion and the traitor in the group bit. One sad thing is that George Romero was originally going to direct the first film, you can even find his script online.

Considering how long this franchise has been going after Paul steps out i'm sure the studio will want to reboot it sooner or later. Then again he is the driving force in these films and mainly the reason why they're still made.

Someone reviewed the first RE film and said the first movie didn't take a lot of stuff from the games to avoid making it predictable, it will be less scary and very predictable that way

I hate this excuse. I guess Game of Thrones is suffering, we should blame the books for letting everyone know what's going to happen. Funny, because end of the third season, people still didn't know what was going to hit them until it did.

Same with Walking Dead, except that the major deviations from the books are pissing off the fans of the books while the general audience is still ignorant.

Fans want to see their game come to life, they don't care if it's predictable. The general audience won't know the difference, as these movies/shows have proven.

Is Game of Thrones based on comics? I can give you on novels if that's GoT source material
Walking Dead source material is followed by a smaller margin

Finally watched this the other day, geez it was terrible. I get what they were trying to do with the feel of the film, but they missed the mark by a long shot.

Still can't believe there will be another one. Also, anyone else feel the zombies took a dive in quality compared to the last film? The make up and effects looked really bad. This felt more like a direct to DVD film.

The budget is small so that it can make a profit more easily, while more crazy elements are added, which ends up making everythink be made in a crapy CGI. I don't have a problem if they change some things, or even use different characters, but only if that's for the best, instead of the main characters we knew we get ones that look the same as in the game but don't have any personality and we have a marysue of a main character.

The first film wasn't exactly a step in the wrong direction, it was full of flaws but with more work it could have been good, the sequels however just became worse and worse, the 2nd film was horrible, the 3rd was bad, but mainly because Alice got more superpowers, with some work it could have been good, then the 4th was the franchise completelly jumping the shark.

I like them all to varying degrees although I can't remember much of RE5 which means it's not a memorable film. In fact I had to go to the IMDB page just to get a refresher on what occured in it. Then bits and pieces came back to me. I thought the fourth was okayish but it also felt like they ripped off Silent Hill a bit with the giant guy and his axe.

They did? Capcom is guilty of ripping it off then too, it's in Resident Evil 5 the game
Something similar to it is in the last Tomb Raider game

It wasn't exactly the same but he reminded me of Pyramid Head.

Not Casino Royale/Batman Begins style because the films might be too dark and serious.

I say reboot it and follow the same tone of the videogames.

Which one? The first ones have the tone of b-movie horror with bad dialogue, code veronica is conspiracy with Umbrella, 4 is more or less horror in a village and 5 is basically a millitary mission.

Good. That's what this series needs to wash the bad taste of these fan-fiction movies out. Did no one here play the REmake on Gamecube/Wii? It was dark and serious as originally intended. The cheesiness of the originals on PS1 weren't intended to be.

Yep. I would like if the screenwriter found a way to give us the Trevor family backstory via flashback.

Agreed!

To be fair some game properties can be adapted by taking elements but telling a different story, like Prince of Persia, the movie sucked but the graphic novel that was published before is a good example. Resident Evil however i don't think is the right franchise for that.

Been trying to catch up on the new film coming out, can we post in here?

What happened to the show that was announced a good while back? The last thing I recall reading was from late 2014...

James Cameron should direct it tbh. The games took a lot specifically from Aliens.
