Review the Blade TV Pilot (Post critic reviews too!)

I liked it. I was expecting the worst and it wasn't that bad. People have already pointed out the bad points, but hopefully it will get better as it gets rolling. Blade should of had a bigger part, but they seemed to be trying to establish Krista as a major character in the series, so I think Blade will step up in later episodes now that her "origin" has been told.

lol this is like the most serious thing I've ever seen you post

I think Wesley also hurt our expectations/perceptions of Kirk. We believed he was Blade b/c HE believed he was Blade. He owned that role-even in Trinity, even while the entire movie was falling apart around him, he held his ground. Kirk seems to just be TRYING to sell the character.

Sorry, didn't mean to scare you. :O:p

We just need to let go of Snipes and get used to Kirk. Snipes will always be the best Blade.

I think he did fine. It's just hard after seeing Snipes in 3 films over and over to get used to Kirks voice and the fact that he can't move like a expert martial artist like Snipes.

I'm there next Monday. I liked how the pilot had alot of focus on Krista and just enough Blade. We don't need to know the origin of Blade but the new characters need to be developed as quickly as possible. Can't wait to see Moon Knight.

I thought the pilot was good enough, I went in expecting the worst and thought the it showed a lot of promise. Like that their keeping very true to the world the movies established, showing footage from the first movie and referencing the inhaler from the third was a nice touch. I'm looking forward to seeing some drugged up wanna be vamps. I felt Blade had enough on screen time, most everyone watching this show knows who Blade is, they need to introduce the other characters and when you're gonna have one become a vamp, she's gonna need more screen time, I really hope they show her inner struggle to keep her vampire instincts down and help Blade. Some of you guys watching this need to lower your expectations, it's a TV show on Spike, you're not gonna get the production values of a network show, let alone a major motion picture. That being said, I think it would've been a lot cooler if F/X had this show with what they're doing with Rescue Me and the Shield, this show would be really great there.

I will continue to watch, but I hope they tighten up their weak spots.

So when is the encore presentation of the pilot? I missed it, darn the luck-- and will the series be airing all 13 episodes back to back, or will they be skipping any weeks?

should they bring in writers of shows like Buffy & Angel?

As far as I know they're running straight through. And no, I don't think they should bring in ANYTHING from Buffy & Angel.

Why the **** does Blade need the display on the insde of his glasses to tell him who's human and who's not? When he was walking through the club, the display on the inside of his glasses kept reading 98.6 degrees:Human-as he eyed down each person. Doesn't Blade know who's who by "the way they move; by the way they smell.."

7/10.
Pretty average if you ask me. No reference to Daystar and why Vampires are still around, and I wish the plot was a bit better. I'll have to give Kirk some time to fully become Blade, because when I saw him, the only thing I was thinking about was Wesley as Blade, the definitive Blade.

Well, it was going downhill for me, until the action/fight scenes, which were very good. I'll give it until next episode to see how I really feel about the show.

7/10.

Yeah, I thought that, too.
He is half Vampire, also, and in the movie, he knew who was who, just like the other Vampires in the movies. I was like "WTF?".

Goyer forgot what he wrote in his own movies. :down

That was never consistent. 1st movie-he was shocked to learn Vanessa was a vampire. 2nd movie-he was surprised to learn Koonan was human; 3rd movie-he killed that familiar thinking HE was a vampire. I guess his tracking senses aren't infallible, partly b/c vampires continue to evolve.

oooo, good point. I guess they just wanted to show some new technology on Blades part.

True, I never thought about that.

I thought the show was pretty good. The only issue I had with show was the fight scenes. They were not a smooth as they were in the movies. Hopefully, Kirk will get better as the show progresses, but I will definitely watch each week. I will rate it a 7.5 out of 10.

I was pretty happy that they did indeed mention Blades father(the scene with Randy Quaid and Krista). I think this will be the Richard Roundtree cameo later on in the season. I also look forward to seeing Bokeem Woodbine, i've always like him as an actor...

Well, I didn't doubt there would be a lot of b****ing in here today. But I was impressed last night. I didn't care for the focus on Krista but it was understood why they did it. The editing of the fights was well done. Face it... Sticky is not gonna look like Wesley on film. Overall, I thought Sticky did a good job and given a few episodes I think we can get used to him being Blade. The references to the movies were cool and we definitely need more of them. Love that they filled in a few more blanks about his past, too.

Favorite scene...when he's on top of the building and he can smell the blood and the thirst is gnawing at him...that was ill.
