I love Donner. He is one of my favorite directors. He's very unique and doesn't repeat himself yet still manages to make very "Hollywood" movies. Some of his movies like The Omen, Superman, Goonies, Lethal Weapon series, and Maverick are classics! Yet sometimes he doesn't get the respect his deserves. Example: How come he has never been nominated for an Oscar? How come in those AFI lists his movies are barely listed?

Richard Donner rules. Superman: The Movie, The Omen, Lethal Weapon - all awesome movies. The Omen is probably my favorite horror movie ever next to The Shining. I still need to see The Goonies.

How come he has never been nominated for an Oscar?

Double-standard! Spielberg can be nominated for Raiders of the Lost Ark but Donner can't be nominated for Superman. William Friedkin can be nominated AND WIN for French Connection but Donner can't for Lethal Weapon.

Some filmmakers back up the theory. Friedkin has admitted that Dirty Harry (released the same year as French Connection) is just as good as 'Connection' but didn't get the industry respect for some reason.

Donner is a great filmmaker. but it would matter more to me if he won the Director's Guild Awards than the Oscars. Oscars got way to much politics in it.

Good point. But, anyway, I think we've all discussed the classics but what about the lesser known Donner films like The Toy, Ladyhawke, and Scrooged? What do some of you think of those? I think Toy and Ladhawke are underrated while Scrooged is a love it or hate it movie.

well, Superman sucked.

The only good thing he did is Lethal Weapon.

Ladyhawke is a classic , i think its been credited to be the first fantasy film that gave the genre a kind of legitimacy to be taken seriously.

I thought Ladyhawke was the movie everyone hated cause of the crappy Alan Parson Project music

Oh ****, Catman. Looks like we're going to have to beat some ass tonight.

He can do whatever the **** he wants as long as he stays away from the comics.

**** The Oscars. They haven't even nominted Donner nor Burton, **** them!

Articulate as always Gonking :whatever:
