Rick Famuyiwa is Directing the Flash

@Black Narcissus
You just wanted an excuse to post that gif didn't ya? :oldrazz:

Anyway, I must say that I like the fact they gave a property like "The Flash" to a black director, as opposed to "Cyborg". I always found there's something patronizing and somewhat hypocritical in the approach where they would give a film with a female main character to a female director or one with a black main character to a black director like that's all those directors are capable of handling for some reason and otherwise, if it was a story about a white male, it goes without saying that they wouldn't get the job. I get it that it's a matter of baby steps in Hollywood and giving a director's chair to someone from such minority in this business is an improvement on itself, but still, such limitations are something that tends to annoy me.

Also, based on a certain character, it seems that The Wood and Dope take place in the same universe.

So he's kinda pulling a Tarantino with this? Now you definitely got my interest. Or rather those films did.

Dope was one of the best movies last year, confirmation was pretty good too. I'll have to check his other stuff. Good choice

if they want to have it just be as diverse as the tv show get Kiersey Clemons from Dope as Iris West she is same age as ezra miller

I actually came here to say this. :p

Now that makes me even more excited about this movie! Can't wait to know some details about the story!

I think it was just a shout out to fans of The Wood. But the character also shows how a person as a teen or young adult isn't exactly the same 20+ years later or how much a person can change (and it was a funny thing to see). Since both stories deal with teens (1980s vs 2010s), there's that too.

i loved dope a big recommendation for any who haven't seen it tons of fun energy and likable characters

Sounds interesting in any way. Thanks for the info, I'll definitely check these out (in proper order of course).

No problem.

The moments are fairly brief with the character, but he's used to good effect (I personally like him more in The Wood). Both films are on Netflix, but Brown Sugar isn't.

This is true diversity. He wasn't chosen because he's doing a black character. They got him because of his work. I'm extremely happy with this and hope it sticks

i thought Dope was a solid movie, it started out really good that kinda got dumb with the whole "im a hacker" plotline. Still a better choice than the previous dude. He seems to be able to pull off comedy pretty nicely.

So this is good news?

Yeah, the second half was weaker for me. A solid and entertaining film overall.

Dope is in my queue but I haven't watched it yet

I'm sure I'll manage to find it as well... I reckon I'll most probably binge-watch "The Wood" and "Dope". Was left without any ideas about what to watch, so this comes rather nicely.

Exactly. This is a gist of what I was getting at. Hopefully it will be a start of a trend.

So, besides "Dope", what should I watch from this fellow?

The Wood and Brown Sugar.

Cool. It was expected given Geoff johns started following him on Twitter recently. Dope was good. I think Rick's style will work great with the flash

Looks like I have some homework to do.

So this is good news?
Based on word of mouth from his fans here, I guess it could be.

Back to the future is one of famuyiwa favourite movies. He is alright in my book.

i have only seen dope but that was one of my favorite movies of 2015

Yep. They're a great double feature.
