Associated Press - Biden: Senate filibuster change on debt a 'real possibility'

Don't stop there, reform the filibuster entirely. Make the filibuster about temporary delaying to make your case to your fellow Senators and/or the general public, not about permanent blockades, if you keep it around in a new form.

They should have to stand and argue their case unless they have a health condition or physical defect that makes them incapable of standing. Id put a time limit on it too. An hour of speaking per senator. If they cant change any minds after an hour of speaking they aren't going to change any minds.

They can carve it out. Then they can carve some more. They can keep carving piece by piece until there is no filibuster left.

How about expanding reservations and giving them more federal aid and resources.

There will always be more to be done. More important than wiping out debt, while necessary, is an overall reform of the system that has students running up a huge bill. Things like additional financial aid for one. When I went to the University of California, it was quite affordable. We had basic and supplemental educational opportunity grants (BEOG and SEOG) that covered almost all of our educational and living expenses if you lived on campus. We were required to take out a small loan quarterly or participate in the work study program. We had to cover books and recreation expenses, but there was a lot going on at the campus and finding fun things to do was never a problem.

CBS News Poll: “Only 10% of Americans describe themselves as knowing a lot of specific things about what’s in the Build Back Better plan, and a majority admit to either not knowing specifics or anything at all.”

Crooks and Liars - What's In Biden's Reconciliation Bill, In Sixty Seconds
Mehdi Hasan flamed the media for failing miserably at doing its job: informing its audience, specifically with regard to anything about President Joe Biden's reconciliation bill, other than its price tag.

When I see occasionally see the ads for it they don't tell you what's in it they just repeat the program title over and over again. The program title (Build Back Better) is irreverent; they should just read off what's in it in advertising. They still can be a little vague while doing that since it's not out of the sausage factory yet.

the media deserves it.....just about all of them and ALL of the major outlets. It's a fight for ratings and not about information. Thank you corporate America. Good job......

Unrealistic but still disappointing. He would rather poison the planet than give up some profits or retrain coal workers to some other profession that wouldn't kill them.

Or have some of the clean energy funding directed to his state, to replace the coal industry and provide new jobs for workers.

His issue isn't getting more clean energy. His issue is him and his family are tied financially to coal. It's not just his donors.

Joe Manchin, America’s climate decider-in-chief, is a coal baron | Mark Hertsgaard

Financial records detailed by reporter Alex Kotch for the Center for Media and Democracy and published in the Guardian show that Manchin makes roughly half a million dollars a year in dividends from millions of dollars of coal company stock he owns. The stock is held in Enersystems, Inc, a company Manchin started in 1988 and later gave to his son, Joseph, to run.

I can’t believe his shortsightedness. Money won’t matter if we don’t do anything to fix our planet.

A lot of these *******s will be dead before the more obvious effects take hold. Others will have al that corporate money to insulate them from the worst .Oh, and they have no empathy for others.

Never forget Manchin is just several lobbyists playing Muppet Man in a suit.
McCoy was tricked by the activists who said they were job recruiters. He talked about working with "shadow groups," supporting a carbon tax that he believes will never happen and influencing senators to weaken climate elements of President Biden's infrastructure plan.

"Joe Manchin, I talk to his office every week," McCoy bragged to the interviewer. He called the Democratic senator from West Virginia a "kingmaker" and discussed how "on the Democrat side we look for the moderates on these issues" in their efforts to stop policies that could hurt the company's business.
