Disclaimer: I usually refrain from running speculative rumors on /Film but its a slow news day. And besides, Im not going to pass this off as news. Heck Im not even going to pass this off as a rumor. For now consider this story a fun What IF? /Film reader Jon B brought it to my attention that George Clooney was spotted preholidays in Hollywood having a business meeting with director Ridley Scott and Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel ( Paris Hilton was also in attendance but gossip mags have recently linked the heiress and Clooney so thats more likely personal than professional) . Marvel Studios has said that they are interesting in bringing a Dr. Strange movie to the big screen. Clooney looks a bit Strange doesnt he? Or might Ridley Scott might direct The Avengers movie? Or perhaps it was just a fun meeting between friends. We know this whole discussion is circumstantial and speculative at best but in the boring days of early January I find it a little fun to speculate. So lets pretend for just a minute that there is something more to this dinner meeting.
Pure Rumor? What u guys think.. Sounds interesting to say the least.

hmmmmmmm interesting....... i wouldn't mind ridley scott directing the avengers

I would love Ridley Scott to direct the avengers. George Clooney is a great actor as well, his talent gets overshadowed by his fame by a lot of people.

If this is true it is interesting...

Yup... I could see Clooney in tights again...

And no freaking way Scott directs the Avengers... the lack of news is a *****... but give it a rest with these reports.

You don't want Scott to direct the Avengers or you don't see it happening?

Yup... I could see Clooney in tights again...

You can't blame Clooney entirely for Batman.

He's a skilled enough actor to be a good Strange with the proper script and director.

Too many times has Clooney gotten away with playing himself or a version of the doctor he did on E.R. :o Truthfully, he has Syria, Michael Claytona and O Brother Where art Thou as good performances. Look at his IMDB stuff and he has way more misses than good performances or movies.

I didn't like any of the Oceans, Out of Sight, Peacemaker, Leatherheads, 3 Kings, B&R (though all hated it)...I'll stop because I think he gets too much credit as an actor but he actually does deserve some credit as a writer and director.

Clooney could be a villain for all we know...but this is all made up crap like the Eddie Murphy as the Riddler stuff.

Oceans 11 was brilliant IMO. As were Out of Sight, Peacemaker and 3 Kings. I think he is a great actor.

I think he has signs of being a good actor but is too often type cast as the suave, smooth talking guy. (see from Out of Sight and Oceans, he was the same in Burn After Reading only goofier) The guy is the epitome of cool but not as good as he's interpreted to be.

As for Peacemaker...I didn't like it.

I wonder if he could be a villain in one of the movies, or maybe a father figure for one of the characters.

Yea that would be cool to see him as a bad guy for once.

Aha that's another good one "Dusk till Dawn" I think he is awesome in that. Different from his usual roles.

To me...Dusk Til Dawn was just a cool movie that happened to have him in it. But yeah he was good in that.

I wouldn't mind if those folks got involved with Marvel.. the more a-listers, the better.. whether this would be the best fit for Doc strange, Avengers, who knows... hmm... how often has Clooney had a mustache or goatee in his roles? just curious.. (and I'm trying to imagine him saying stuff like "by the sands of the seraphim!")

Seems like they are just pulling Strange out of their butt. For all we know it could be Hank Pym.

Or... and this is just me dreaming... Fox is going to cough up the FF rights and Clooney is going to be Reed. :D

But it does sound fun.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

I'm way more curious about Marvel talking to Ridley. What movie can he possibly direct for them? hmm...

I think Dr. Strange is our best bet. Our Ridley for Avengers, Clooney for Pym. I hope he isnt Thor.......

Isn't Clooney a little old for Pym? I'd rather see someone a bit younger.

Scott for Avengers would make it great.

I wouldn't mind one bit if Scott directed the Avengers

I'm okay if Clooney as Pym since he's around the same age as Robert Downey Jr but does Clooney look good if he's dyed blond?

Dr Strange is not really Marvel's priority now, but if there's going to be a movie I rather have Liam Neeson as him.

I would love to see Ridley Scott direct a superhero movie before he retires. Marvel should also get Danny Boyle to direct something as he is looking for a new movie now that slumdog Millionaire is out.

I think Marvel could be asking Ridley to do Captain America. Ridley can do big epic movies and war scenes (Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven). He can do period movies (American Gangster) and Sci Fiction or Fantasy movies (Blade Runner, Alien, Legend).

Not too sure about Clooney as Doctor Strange. I would rather see him as a villain for a change.
