Sequels To Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes: Director Rupert Wyatt’s Ideas

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/08...net-of-the-apes-director-rupert-wyatts-ideas/

“There’s so much we could do… The ideas I’ve had are all sorts of things, ranging from Full Metal Jacket with apes… you could start this story again eight years from where we left off, the next generation of apes, those that have come from our protagonists, perhaps going in to a conflict with humans and showing real fear, in the same way as going into war for young soldiers in this day and age, telling their story. Or how apes are taking over cities, and being moved into human environments and having to interact with them and deal with things that are part of our culture and understand and evolve through them. Spies that are in the employ of the apes, working against humans and humans maybe existing underground, because that’s a way they can avoid the virus, coming up above ground wearing gas masks, and maybe that’s what dehumanises them.”
That sounds f***ing brilliant.

I just found out the DP on this was Andrew Lesnie. Not surprising.

I loved the opening shot of the movie.

OK, Let me start off by saying I loved this movie. There were so many things right with it. But there were a few things that made me go wtfunk?

Take the scene where Lithgow sees the neighbors car outside "With the door open" What? At first I was like oh that must be someones car and maybe they ran inside. Then Lithgows character sees it and gets in. But no, we learn that the car belongs to Dr. McKay whom appeared to be just inside his house. (And NOT in the Pegasus galaxy as previously thought.) That was pretty stupid and really made me go wtfrak...

Then also take the scene where Caesar gets out of the house and gets cornered by Dr. McKay in his back yard. First off, there is NO way that DR. McKay wouldnt have called the police. Especially when he has kids to be worried about. I dont think you're allowed to have a full grown chimpanze in a suburban house like that. Which brings me to another similar point...

There is No way that the neighbors would want to have that Chimp anywhere in that Neighborhood.

Also there is No way that Francos boss or at least his company wouldn't have found out about the finger bitting incident and fired his as on the spot. He stole company property (Caesar).

These are some of the things about the beginning of the movie that were all like "whatever", that would never happen.
Other than that I really did love the movie...

The door is open cuz the neighbor ran inside quickly to grab something, you can hear him go into his house as Lithgow is walking out.

He wouldn't have called the cops right then and there, maybe afterwards yeah he should have but in that moment he was doing what mostly any other parent would do and thats protect their child from a foreign animal.

Caesar was never once shown to be harmful and its pretty clear that he spent most of his time inside the house, so I'm assuming most neighbors just didn't know he was even there.

Exactly. If Ceasar stayed in the house after that and there was no evidence that he was still there, the neighbors (even the jerk), would have most likely assumed it was gone. Five years had passed since the bike incident, if they hadn't seen him in 5 years there was no reason to think he was still there.

As far as the jerk neighbor calling the cops after the incident with the bicycle? Yeah, that's probably what would have happened. In movieland, they let it slide to let the story commence. Oh well.

As far Franco being fired - if the potential was there for this company to make craploads of money off of what he had done, they were likely willing to sweep that little misdeed under the rug if it had worked out in their favor. :cwink:

I didnt notice or hear the neighbor make any noise, I must have missed that one.
But as for the second one, sure he did what any normal husband/father would do and thats chase the Chimp away with a bat. Ofcourse he wouldnt have called the cops right there, But ANY normal man would have said, "Honey, get me the phone." and went inside to make the call. Either way the cops would have had to come out and ask questions. Like, where did you get this monkey? And from there it would unravel...
And for the last point. Even if his company figured out what really happened they still would have fired his ass(even if the serum works, they were just taking his word for it). The Finger biting incident alone could have bankrupt the company. IF they had figured out that he stole the chimp from the company the lawyer would have tried to sue the company. And any good CEO or President knows that and would have fired Franco just to put distance between themselves.

You are aware that this is a movie about apes taking over the planet, right?

Suspension of disbelief needs to apply in a few instances here. :cwink:

Just saw it. Loved it. I'm not even a fan of Franco and thought he did a fine job here. Andy Serkis once again made me believe in a CGI character. So it can be done. No more excuses for the Hulk....just do it right (hire Andy Serkis?).

I don't know why some people love to spoil movies.I go around the net and people put the infamous scene in titles of topics...basically giving it all away...

i'm really getting tired of some in this movie community...
its like some people don't know how to act....

i'm not talking about this board specifically. I'm saying you saw the movie ..ok...why go on and SPOIL it for people that are on the fence about it?

THIS MOVIE WAS MEANT TO SURPRISE!

Once again i'm not talking about this board...

Yeah it's especially bad on Youtube,Every time I see the last trailer or TV spot for a movie on there there's some comments from people who saw it early somehow and they expose everything!!

They just do it to be *******s because there is no comeuppance when you're thousands of miles away.

I'm going to see Final Destination 5 this weekend so later I may sneak into see this one too.

I'm actually shocked at the huge opening for this, from the trailers I thought it would bomb big time, it's clear that POTA has many fans and they're not just to see James Franco.

WHy?
Just go watch planet of the apes and dont read too many spoiler..
this movie is meant to surprise

I don't know why people say comments like these. They're just dumb. Clearly the movie works because of ceaser, he is the main charcter and the entire plot revolves around him.

If you take Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader out of Star Wars you have a terrible movie, if you take out the joker from the dark knight you have a lame film, etc.... so whats your point?

It is called rise of the planet of the apes for a reason lol

This was well done. Andy Serkis is so incredible as a motion capture actor.

Its an unwritten rule , you don't spoil movies for people...
Not knowing what's going to happen next is what makes movies some movies so great...

Yeah But some people are just so selfish&buzz killing jerks/b**ches,As long as they get to have a laugh.....They don't care about other's at all!!

saw it today
was very surprised by the movie
it was certainly much better than i expected, the 2nd half went really fast
ceasar was fanstastic, the way he moved, andy did a great job once again

i was not aware a sequel was already being planned, so the ending caught me off guard slightly

i'm very excited to see what happens next :awesome:

Just saw it, thought it was very good. However, I think the biggest thing working against this movie is its pacing. Everything happens waaaaaaay too quickly. Everything jumps from scene to scene and never really slows down. I mean a proper slow down. From start to finish the film is always running. I think it hurts it, because some of the emotional impacts, especially at the end, seem too quick to make the kind of depth or shell out the kind of punch it should.

Malfoy was annoying. I don't understand why the apes in the lab all have human eyes. Also, is Ceasar a character in any of the other Planet of the Apes movies?

Other than those gripes, I really enjoyed it.

yes, i believe he was introduced in the last two apes films in the 70's. There were 4 back then I believe.

I have to say, this film had some nice cinematography in some scenes. The shot where Caesar is overlooking the landscape on the towering redwood was just beautiful and the golden gate bridge scene was really well shot.
