John McTiernan has signed on to direct Shrapnel, an action thriller about two war vets engaged in a "deadly game of cat and mouse," reports Variety.

The script comes from Evan Daughtery, whose talent brought it to the 2008 Black List. The project is not to be confused with Shrapnel, a currently in-development science fiction film (oddly enough compared to McTiernan's own Die Hard by its own director, Len Wiseman).

With the Wiseman Shrapnel adapting a graphic novel, it is highly likely that the McTiernan film will find an alternate title.

Hopefully he is on Die Hard form for this comeback!

McTiernan + "deadly game of cat and mouse" = Excellence.

Looking at his past films, this type of movie is right up his alley.

YES! He's directed my two all time favourite films. Predator and Die Hard. So I'm glad he'll be back.

I'm there.

So... what about "Camel Wars" and "Run"?

I hope this will be made. John McTiernan is one of the best guys for action movies.

So the man is out of jail?

If so, good, I want to see him back directing action movies again.

It's been a long time since he's made a great movie. Hopefully the magic touch is back.

Wait...what the hell did he get in trouble with??

I never heard of this.

Millennium Films and Corsan Pictures have announced production will start on January 16 for Killing Season (previously known as "Shrapnel"), starring Robert De Niro and John Travolta. Mark Steven Johnson (Ghost Rider, Daredevil) will direct from a script by Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman).

Killing Season is an action movie set in the Appalachian Mountains about an American military veteran (De Niro) who has retreated to a remote cabin in the woods. When a rare visitor, a European tourist (Travolta), appears on the scene, the two men strike up an unlikely friendship. But in fact the visitor is a former Serbian soldier bent on revenge. What follows is a tense, action packed battle across some of America's most forbidding landscape that proves the old adage: the purest form of war is one-on-one.

Nu Image/Millennium is taking the lead on international sales at the American Film Market this week, in consultation with Corsan.

"I've loved this project from the moment I read Evan Daughterty's remarkable script," said Corsan CEO Paul Breuls. "It's thrilling, imaginative, unexpected and dominated by two extraordinary characters on a collision course. I'm very pleased this film is moving into production and to be partnered with Avi Lerner and his team at Millennium."

"We're excited to be co-financing and co-producing this film with Corsan, and to be working again with Robert De Niro and John Travolta," said Nu Image/Millennium topper Avi Lerner. "We've never seen these two great actors on screen together before, and we're excited to see what comes of the combination."

I can forgive the potential wrong director for this still amazing idea. Especially with these two guys.

I looked at the poster before I read the news and when I saw "From the Director of Daredevil and Ghost Rider" I thought it was a joke. The actors have me interested, but now I'm a bit iffy towards this film.

I always like whenever Travolta plays villains in movies. He seems more apt for it & he seems a lot better being evil & cynical. Just reading the description for this already bought my ticket.

The premise reminds me of the Charles Bronson / Lee Marvin movie Death Hunt.

This film reminds me of that film that starred Alec Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins.

The trailer looked like a parody of its own movie...

i think this film is a lock in for best hair and make up oscar

Between Travolta playing a Serbian, his beard, two old guys getting their Jason Bourne on, and the terrible way the trailer is edited, this movie looks ridiculous.
