Robert Downey Jr says he is "surprisingly open" to returning

So recently since Robert won the oscar for Oppenheimer, he has made comments about be open about returning to the MCU to play Tony Stark, over the weekend, in a recent interview he went a step furthur by saying he would be Surprisingly open to returning to Marvel as Stark, now to be fair, Kevin Freige has said they arent bringing Stark back, so how much of this is wishful thinking by fans, or is RDJ playing around with people getting them excited for what could happen in Avengers secret wars.
I can say there is a massive fanbase that wants RDJ back as Stark, i see it daily online, seems Stark is big in India and Japan where much of the passion comes from, I of course am a massive Iron Man fan and would love to have him return, since he would be a varient, as it would not affect the sacrifice of the 616 Stark which seems to be the big hang up for some fans, this is less about wanting more Iron Man films, those are done, assuming a reboot and recasting, it would be more Avengers Secret wars, Ironheart , even if he returns as an AI for Ri Ri Williams, what does everyone think?

So everybody says like, "they will never bring Iron Man back" and blah, blah, blah... well... I think that's right, I think the Tony Stark who was killed by using the infinity stones to snap away Thanos and all of Thanos' evil forces (near the end of Avengers Endgame) will never be brought back in the MCU, ever.

BUT..... there is a huge, huge opening for allowing it to be possible for an Iron Man character to be seen in the MCU again, one who IS played by Robert Downey Jr., and the way that is possible is of course because with the multiverse now being part of the MCU storyline..... that means that another Tony Stark from another reality / universe than the one who was killed can be introduced very easily.

Maybe a Tony Stark, for example, from a reality where in that reality the infinity stones never even existed, so therefore in that reality Thanos could never even have used them to wipe out half of everyone alive in the first place!

So, I would really, really like to see an Iron Man character appear in the MCU again, one who IS played by Robert Downey Jr. specifically, and I really think that would be the best way to do that.

I honestly don’t know why he would turn it down.

He doesn't come across as someone very selective to his movie roles and its the Iron Man role.

Well whatever he was talking about when he did that interview seems no longer relevant as RDJ is now Dr. Doom, alot to unpack with that announcement, even Gwenyth Paltrow was stunned by the news he was now a villian in the same universe he played Iron Man in for 10 years
