I read Starship Troopers last year and it was a fantastic read. I was wondering if there were any Robert Heinlein fans out there, and if so, which of his novels would you recommend I read next? Stranger in a Strange Land? Or something else?

Just reading the plot summary of Moon is a Harsh Mistress, it seems like it might have some intriguing parallels to counter-insurgency wars that major powers have been waging in recent decades, notably in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Chechnya and Iraq.

I always thought stranger was somewhat overrated..just because it's boring.

For some simpler pleasures try The Puppet Masters or Glory Road.

i've been on a huge sci-fi kick the past couple years, but i've yet to get around to heinlein. but from what i've heard, he's right up my alley.

i wanna read "have spacesuit, will travel"....mainly because the title is similar to the bo diddley record "have guitar, will travel" and the TV show "have gun, will travel" and the song "have love, will travel".

The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress

ha, the first time Spider-man encountered Moonstone they called it 'The Moonstone is a harsh mistress.'

I read Starship Troopers way back in 1999, I was surprised how much of it was in the movie, really enjoyed it, but don't ask me anything else about it, we had a bong in that flat. But, aye, I do recall the powersuits they had that they jumped around in, and that the book opened with them using those suits.

Just a little 'did you know' aside though, when Philip K Dick was having financial difficulties at one point in his life, Robert Heinlein helped him out with some dough.

Whoever says not to read "Stranger" is on the drugs. It is my favorite novel, and you owe it to yourself to check it out. "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" is also fantastic, once you've gotten past some of the crazy moon-pidgin it's narrated in.

Stranger in a strange land wasn't boring at all, its a sci-fi masterpiece. Definitely read it!
