According to a report at ICv2, Jessica Alba and Robert Rodriguez have teamed up to option the French comic book series Insiders. The original source for this information appears to be the French version of Premiere.

Insiders is a spy thriller in several volumes, reportedly revolving around the female lead Najah Cruz and I’m assuming that Alba has her eye on this vaguely Dark Angel-ish role as well as the Executive Producer’s seat. In the series, Cruz is a Columbian working for the White House, tasked to infiltrate and bring down a global crime syndicate.

Judging from the titles of the seven volumes of Insiders already issued, there’s a whole lot of globetrotting going on: Chechnya, Afghanistan, the Kremlin, some Gulag or another, Peking. And I think that’s in series order.
The strip was created by Jean-Claude Bartoll, previously an investigative journalist and also the author of the Terrorist and Mekong comics, and illustrated by Renaud Garreta.

If I were Alba and I was looking to get a movie of this series made I’d very probably turn to Rodriguez too. She witnessed his comics-adaptation skills first hand with her role in Sin City, which I’m sure was very compelling evidence.

As I said only yesterday, an option is rather far removed from a greenlight, so perhaps we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves with excitement yet. Nonetheless, I expect a good number of folk will sometime soon stop by Amazon France and see what the fuss is about.

Here’s the back cover of the first volume, and below that a really bad translation of what it says down the side:

They are businessmen, politicians, or high-flying financiers… but these corporations are only the face of a vast global mafia underground. As we face a threat that undermines what remains of our democracies, the White House agrees to the challenge … officially, it will become the right hand of a mysterious organisation. Najah is an infiltrator… her mission: to uncover the various links to the mafia hydra in a game of poker the size of the planet.

Or better. It could mean Nancy gets recast.

I guess my proposal became half true. I said Alba was tv actress at best and Dark Angel was the only good thing on her resume.

So she's going back to a Dark Angel-like role and try to rewind the clock back.

So...this is what...the 10th movie Rodriguez has announced this month? Remember a time when Rodriguez would announce a movie and then, you know, go make it?

Looks interesting. Initially I thought you talking about the French horror film "Inside".

I know right? I mean has Red Soja even started filming yet?

What does this mean for Predators!!!

Okay, Robert, how about you release a damn film before you announce new projects? Maybe that what your Ex did, since she was your partner, and that's obviously not whats happening now.

I'm a fan of the guys work, but damn...

I dont quite trust Rodriguez to make good movies anymore... and judging from the lead being Jessica Alba, i'm guessing this will be quite a turd.

Aw, have fans woken up to how lame Dark Angel really was? It doesn't change the fact that Alba is still famous and people still watched that show.

Jessica has signed on to play the lead. I still haven't heard of this title, but I hope it's not an overblown spy thriller.

besides FF and Sin City, what hit movies have she been in? She wasn't even the main star in those movies.

How many female stars are the lead in hit action movies to begin with though? She was a lead in FF but she wasn't in Sin City. Also it wasn't like Sin City was some big blockbuster.

I think the only female star that can open a big action movie is Jolie...and even that is somewhat debatable. I just don't see this movie being that much of a hit.

If you mean the upcoming movie "Salt" I don't know if I'd care to watch that. It reminds me too much of similar films like "The Sentinel".

It's quite rare to get a Colombian character for the lead of spy film. So I hope they know what they're doing.
