Comic-Con: All New Synopsis for RoboCop Remake by Spencer Perry July 12, 2012 Share this story

The upcoming sci-fi remake

Now, we love RoboCop here, will never not love it. Even if this movie turns out a stinker our fondness will overcome it, but it seems like it's shaping up to be the kind of RoboCop movie that we need in the current political climate (much like the original was highly appropriate for it's own time). Check out the newest synopsis for the film below.

In "RoboCop," the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

Director José Padilha ("Elite Squad") reimagines the tale of part man, part machine, all cop starring Joel Kinnaman ("The Killing") as the title character, Gary Oldman ("The Dark Knight Rises") as the scientist who creates RoboCop, and Samuel L. Jackson ("The Avengers") as media mogul Pat Novak.

RoboCop is about to enter production and is currently targeting an August 9, 2013 release.

Not really a new synopsis, but we'll see what he does with it.

Can't really read too much into it at the moment. But I'm getting the feeling he's going to just be severely injured, rather than brutally murdered here.

Wasn't this one supposed to be released two years ago? Was looking forward to see it, at the time

2029 is the year Kyle Reese went back to stop the Terminator

But on a serious note, that sure is a change to make Murphy critically injured instead of brutally murdered.

EDIT: The ironic thing about my post is that Kyle Reese also went back to the year 1984. This was my 1984th post. Hmm.

I remember reading the old Robocop vs Terminator comics when I was kid, and playing the Genesis game, too.

well since shooting hasn't started yet we don't know how much truth is from the synposis since stuff from that could change from filming. Plus also counts on what rating they are going for about violence in the film.

I wanted brutality :(

You want to see a poor police officer have his hand blown off, then his arm, followed by, like, I don't know, a BILLION bullets cutting through his body, ending with him getting one last bullet punched through his Goddamn head?

Me too! :D

:woot:

It doesn't need to be the same set of events and actions..but in my mind it has to be very harsh, undeserved, and basically as close to deaths door as possible. That way the payback is better, shows how bad crime is in the city and makes you care for Murphy more.

edit - cos if hes simply paralysed..then the suit is just a walking aid, rather than the whole..is this man or manchine? thing. AND being left4dead and making a comeback is better than being just injured. Means the evil-doer isn't so evil, too.

It's still early days yet, but even the lack of a 'Clarence Boddicker-type' villain casting makes me wonder whether this critical/severe injury is even at the hands of an evil-doer directly, or whether it is in fact just an indirect accident sort of thing. Although the mention of it being 'in the line of duty' gives me hope it won't be.

Murphy's death was meant to be as bad and sad as it could, to make you sympathise with him, because we knew very little about him upon his death. You see he was a nice guy, cared about his son, had a good sense of humor, dedicated to his job, upholding his code of ethics even in the face of his attackers...then BAM! He's turned into dog food! But these were key elements to his characterisation and the unfolding story, that he lost or almost lost as Robocop. Which showed you the MAN OR MACHINE? thing more clearly.

I thought it stupid though where the medics were trying to save him...HE HAS A BILLION BULLET HOLES IN HIS BODY AND A HUGE GAPING HOLE IN HiS HEAD. How was he even still alive? And why did OCP think they could salvage Murphy's brain for Robocop, when it has A HUGE GAPING HOLE IN IT?

As long as what happens to Murphy in the reboot is 'shocking' and 'uncalled for', even for a PG-13 movie, then that's cool.

Oh, God. I'm getting a flashback of an episode of Alvin and the Chipmunks. Where it was a Robocop parody, and instead of Alvin getting shot to death, he was crushed by scaffolding!

MURPHY: "Lewis, get that Boddicker guy out of here. Fancy him think he was gonna kill me"
LEWIS:"MURPHY WATCH OUT FOR THE FALLING PIANO!!!"

NORTON:" It is my great pleasure to introduce you to, Cripplecop"
:D

Well we shouldn't worry yet like I said we still have a few months to go and other roles to cast, no clue on rating yet. And even if it was pg 13 maybe they can push the rating and still have just as bad death as original.

I think it will be. Cause by re-introducing Robocop as a hard hitting, but kiddy friendly movie, like BB and TDK, is the best chances of them getting out as much Robo stuff as possible, in every department. If it makes Robocop chances of being more successful in the mainstream, then I'm fine with it.

But then again I may be wrong...cause he shoots criminals left, right, and centre...how can that be tailored for a PG-13 rating?
And if it's anything like the TV series, where Robo just holds his gun for the sake of showing it off, or to shoot something that conveniently incapacitates someone, I ain't going to see it :hehe:

Unless like our British boys in blue, he has no weapons at all?! Except a whistle or something D:

Well still there is a lot of films that pushed there ratings for what they are worth. And worst come to worst maybe they will have two versions of the film a theatical pg 13 one. Then video release a directors cut/unrated cut with more violence.
