Comic-Con: All New Synopsis for RoboCop Remake by Spencer Perry July 12, 2012 Share this story
The upcoming sci-fi remake
Now, we love RoboCop here, will never not love it. Even if this movie turns out a stinker our fondness will overcome it, but it seems like it's shaping up to be the kind of RoboCop movie that we need in the current political climate (much like the original was highly appropriate for it's own time). Check out the newest synopsis for the film below.
In "RoboCop," the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alexs life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.
Director José Padilha ("Elite Squad") reimagines the tale of part man, part machine, all cop starring Joel Kinnaman ("The Killing") as the title character, Gary Oldman ("The Dark Knight Rises") as the scientist who creates RoboCop, and Samuel L. Jackson ("The Avengers") as media mogul Pat Novak.
RoboCop is about to enter production and is currently targeting an August 9, 2013 release.
not sure if i'd buy this for a dollar.
I remember reading the old Robocop vs Terminator comics when I was kid, and playing the Genesis game, too.2029 is the year Kyle Reese went back to stop the Terminator
But on a serious note, that sure is a change to make Murphy critically injured instead of brutally murdered.
I wanted brutality![]()

t:Murphy's death was meant to be as bad and sad as it could, to make you sympathise with him, because we knew very little about him upon his death. You see he was a nice guy, cared about his son, had a good sense of humor, dedicated to his job, upholding his code of ethics even in the face of his attackers...then BAM! He's turned into dog food! But these were key elements to his characterisation and the unfolding story, that he lost or almost lost as Robocop. Which showed you the MAN OR MACHINE? thing more clearly.t:
It doesn't need to be the same set of events and actions..but in my mind it has to be very harsh, undeserved, and basically as close to deaths door as possible. That way the payback is better, shows how bad crime is in the city and makes you care for Murphy more.
edit - cos if hes simply paralysed..then the suit is just a walking aid, rather than the whole..is this man or manchine? thing. AND being left4dead and making a comeback is better than being just injured. Means the evil-doer isn't so evil, too.
It's still early days yet, but even the lack of a 'Clarence Boddicker-type' villain casting makes me wonder whether this critical/severe injury is even at the hands of an evil-doer directly, or whether it is in fact just an indirect accident sort of thing. Although the mention of it being 'in the line of duty' gives me hope it won't be.

Well we shouldn't worry yet like I said we still have a few months to go and other roles to cast, no clue on rating yet. And even if it was pg 13 maybe they can push the rating and still have just as bad death as original.
