RoboCop Reboot - Part 1

Yeah, but you don't make fun of what catapulted you to where you are know.

They've probably read too many youtube comments on that Robocop VS Terminator fan movie. Where everybody hates on the fact that Robo beats Arnie.

I dont think the script sounds that bad, it sounds like satire of modern times. Which is what the original movie was in its days.

It sounds bad on paper but I'll wait for footage to be released before I cast thee out. Albeit, I hope to god the concept of having Robocop as this 'transformer' doesn't happen. That, in itself, made my eyes bleed.

I loved the Robocop vs Terminator comics. I also liked the Genesis videogame. I always wanted to see a live action movie of that when I was a kid.

Just being honest. = P

Still a good movie, just wish they could've gotten Lucas to insert a CGI'ed Ed.

LOL I was going to say the same thing; they should do facelift of the original movie with updated efx in certain scenes like how it was done in E.T. and Star Wars etc.

I don't get all the hate.
The movie can be crap or the best thing ever for all we know so far (but if Padilha's previous movies "Tropa de Elite" are anything to go by, it will be a masterpiece), but...

Everyone loves Robocop for the satire, but they are hating the bits leaked for the script?

Robocop´s construction is outsourced to China.....EVERYTHING IS MADE IN CHINA NOWADAYS, hence the satire

There is Robocop 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0......LOOK AT SMARTPHONES, CONSOLES, TABLETS....EVERYTHING BECAMES OUTDATED IN MONTHS NOWADAYS, hence the satire.

Don't tell me you are upset because of the all laughing at the "original" design thing?
I love the original Robocop, but he does have a very 80´s look that doesn't hold up nowdays.
Just imagine a ROM movie without updating the armor....

I like the 80's look the way it is. I hope they don't change that too much, if at all.

Thank you for being the breath of fresh air that this thread so badly needed. Please don't leave. :(

You nailed it. The outsourcing to China and multiple versions definitely sound like they're keeping in a healthy does of relevant satire. We know this movie will also introduce the idea of domestically used drones something that is currently being considered by various police organizations all around the US.

I personally like those little bits and having seen both the Tropa De Elite films several times and personally considering it the best crime dramas to ever appropriately show the vicious cycle of crime and corruption & failure within the institutions designed to stop the former, I feel we're in safe hands.

By the way nobody else has corroborated or confirmed that Drew McWeeny even got his hands on the final script, I know he's claiming he did but we don't really know either way. This script in particular has received a ton of rewrites and there are probably dozens of drafts floating around.

So far I feel good about this project. If turns out to be crap well then so be it but I think some people are breaking down far to early into the game.

For me I don't care for what critics say on things usually. I like to see something and judge for myself. And if pictures and footage peak interest see a film/tv show. Now for all the crap drew said I do hope it turrns out to be a solid film.

Just because you can link those elements to satire, doesn't mean it'll come out satirical. That's something we'll have to wait and see.

:applaud

I always laugh out loud when people flip out at me for saying RoboCop looks like a toy.
How dare you!? :argh:

The Robocop design is still really awesome for me. Out of all the 80's future stuff I think it has aged the best quite honestly. However that doesn't mean Padilha won't be able to come up with another awesome design.

I'm keeping my mind open because people seem to forget that this movie hasn't received a dose of talent since the very first film. The bar was already at underground levels of low so honestly they can only go up and if they do manage to make something worse than Robocop 3 then it is what it is.

We'll always have the first Robocop. ;)

To me it's how the internet functions. Even reading Drew's complaints. They complain that it is too similar.....then they complain it's too different. It's a problem I think that some need to let go of.

As for the satire, this is not going to be satire of Reaganomics, like the original was. This is going to be satire of our own modern social and political issues in today's world which now is more dividing and intense then the 80's. It also is parodying our consumer ways now. We complain about things looking too old or outdated with in months, we always want new.

As for the transforming thing it to me is a parody of how we want everything to be multiple things at once, look at our phones. They do so many things, my iPhone 10 years ago would have been tons of appliances costing so much. Now my iPhone (software wise) can transform from an MP3 player, a movie device, a laptop, a GPS unit, a Gameboy, a phone, a webcam, a flash light, the list goes on and on and on.

To me it sounds like from what little I've heard they got the satire thing in spades.

Well said Solidus.

I can't accept Robo being treated like an IPhone...I've got the Galaxy SIII :D

Robocop as a transformer may be a metaphoric parody of society's obsession with technology and the high demands that individuals ask of it to perform on a daily basis... but I would prefer not to see Robocop go through physical 'transformations' for his modes.

Why not? Just because a film that is not super popular with more movie fans (Transformers) does not make it where Robo cannot. That is what most of our machinery does today in some fashion, not in a big sense but I think if it's done well SFX wise, I won't complain.

We are not going to get the boxy clunky Robo of the 80's, that was what most machinery in America was compared to today, now it's sleek multifunction type of equipment.

Is there anywhere, or has anyone got a collation of all the leaked info from the script?

The different versions of RoboCop is genius, he's not a human anymore, he's a product.

I like the idea of him being modular, but "transforming" just inspires a kneejerk reaction from me. I hated that Michael Bay movie so much that the mere thought of it makes me recoil. That's my personal bias, and I'd love to have it washed away by someone who does it well.

I agree, thank you.
After I read through this person's tweets I thought, why so much hate? He put everything in bad light in his comments that reflects his own taste and bias and people jumped on it. Personally I can't see anything bad about what I read and everything makes sense for me. Even if some of those things may not sound good on paper for some people, it still may look cool on screen. We just have to wait and see how it's delivered.
Kind of hilarious how some of the movie sites already dumbed it down to Transformers in the headlines and everyone in the comments are trashing it without more insight, some of them even without reading the details, they just see the word "Transformers" and they go "UGH!!!"

.
please explain to me how and who could confirm that he had the latest script?

and explain to me what must Drew do so that people will belive him ? his career is not enough? is he an idiot who is not able to ask which draft he is reading?

:applaud

.

And this Drew guy sounds like an unprofessional little bastard and I hope this damages his career. He intended on hurting the movies image because he can't stand the fact they're remaking it because hes got the maturity level of a 12 year old
2 days later and now he is already a bastard with the maturity level of a 12 year old?

bravo SnuffTheRooster. bravo

Thank you, sir. Exactly what I was thinking when I read the plot points.
