RoboCop Reboot - Part 5

Saw the two new clips. I like the one with his wife, though not a big fan of the camera work. Not a fan of the ED-209 clip. If they are showing that now, that is the best they got and that probably isn't a good sign. It is like they randomly decide when Murphy moves more like the 80s version and when he doesn't.

Also really wish they augmented his voice more. The coolest he has sounded is in the tv spot when he says Murphy's classic line.

They're better use this middle or end of the film:

All time greatness.

that theme.
i think it might be the best superhero theme in movies, though technically robocop is not really a superhero. but theres a mythic quality to the character and to the music.

It simply fits the original film and character perfectly. It is like the Superman March, the 89 Batman theme, the various Star Wars themes, Indy's theme, etc. When Murphy says his classic final line and the music hits in all its glory. :awesome:

I couldn't have remembered it if I tried but as soon as it started playing I thought "Robocop"

I don't know if it's up there with Indy, Supes and Star wars but it's close.

I wouldn't put it in the same category as those scores either, but I do think it's iconic.

Yea I wouldn't either, its better than those, Truly in a league of its own.

Anyway, here is a brand new press conference! This is from an audience has seen the movie. Reactions probably will be popping up fairly soon.

Some very interesting conversations in this and great views on the reboot. Also minor SPOILERS! So be warned.

I honestly don't think there is that much quality difference. What is important is what it invokes. How it matches the film perfectly. Just like the others.

I always think of the ROBOCOP theme as an integral signifier in the original film. Across the pop culture landscape is it as big as say, William's Superman/Star Wars themes or say the theme from DOCTOR WHO? No, but it is still a great theme that puts the character front and center in your mind when you hear it.

I'd call it 2nd tier, alongside themes like Terminator or Halloween. Iconic and widespread to be sure, but without quite the worldwide cultural penetration as the really big ones like Star Wars or Indy.

Honestly, this is a must-listen for those liking the reboot or those in doubt. Just hearing the director alone expound on the socio-political ideas presented in the movie really lets you know the film was helmed by someone who is like Paul Verhoven without trying to mimic him, and also to hear the cast answer genuinely good questions lets you know this reboot was anything but a cash-in for the talent involved. Studio? Who knows. But the cast and director? They went about it almost like they were making a completely original product: instead of relying on the name and rep of the character from the franchise's past, they infused it with as much of a thoughtful essence as they could.

I already was in love with what I was seeing, but now I know the character could not have recieved better treatment. It's about damn time RoboCop was in something exceptional again. And the original film is quite possibly my most favorite film of all time and has been my entire life, literally. The remake keeps only what you love most about the character orignally, and is not afraid to go off and be its own film, and that's the only right way to do a reboot. Mark my words, this is going to be the reboot by which all others will be judged.

And as a bonus, someone asks Keaton about his kinship with Kinnaman over wearing bulky rubber armor and Keaton branches off on a big talk about Batman, which was totally awesome.

Listening to the podcast I posted above, there is some REALLY interesting stuff in it. I insist people give it a listen! Next to RoboCop, Batman 89 is my favorite film, and Keaton talking about the bat suit is a blast! I love Keaton! So any bat fans, get on it too! Keaton doesn't talk much about this stuff haha...

Anyway, in the press conference video there are initial crowd reactions to the movie. A Long time Robocop fan who was a little worried about seeing the remake, and thought it was going to be bad "Really Loved" the movie. The audience seemed to really enjoy it.

Edit: YES DOC!

Thanks so much for posting that press conference. Everything you said Doc and Twayne x 2! One of my dreams has been to get a new Robocop for a new generation and for it to be good. I'm scanning the interwebs for early reactions. The few I've seen are positive. The depth of thought put into this by Padilha is beyond impressive.

This is why I'm so excited and optimistic if this one is good and does well at the box office then we could have a whole brand new trilogy for Robocop for the new age, the thought itself is very exciting for a Robocop fan.

Oh and Doc thanks so much for posting that conference audio, I watched the Comic-con footage but I needed this again sooner to the film's release.

Just watched the original film again. Its just such a good film. The new film better have a good score to match too, because the original film's theme is so iconic and so good.

Yeah I watched the original for the first time in years today. Such a perfect film. It's aged like a fine wine. I have the bluray coming too.

Well the new film will actually feature the old score! It is indeed iconic.

Wow you didn't wait for the new remastered blu to watch eh? It's like no other I'm tellin ya, especially if you have a decent viewing setup, it's pure bliss.

Slow day *yawn*

I was changing channels and it was on. I started watching and was hooked. Looking forward to the bluray still.

That's exactly what happened to me. Went through the guide, saw Robocop had just started and lost a couple hours of time. But man, those were hours well spent.

Is there a better ending than "nice shooting son, what's your name?" ....."Murphy". Then smash to title ROBOCOP. Gives me chills haha.

I don't know. I don't really like the sudden cut to the end. It's like they were at a rush to end the movie or something
