Roland Emmerich Planning Battle of Midway Movie

Emmy-Nominated ‘Versace’ Star Darren Criss Boards Roland Emmerich’s ‘Midway’

Emmy nominated for his role as the sociopath who gunned down Gianni Versace in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, Darren Criss has boarded the Roland Emmerich-directed World War II film Midway.

Criss will play Lieutenant Eugene Lindsey and he joins Woody Harrelson, Patrick Wilson, Ed Skrein, Aaron Eckhart, Luke Evans, Mandy Moore, Dennis Quaid, and Nick Jonas in the big-scale Wes Tooke-scripted drama based on a battle considered to be the turning point in the war against Japan in WWII.

That is a pretty classic cast tho.

Harrelson is pretty interesting as Nimitz. Wonder if they'll prosthetic him, age him up? They don't look hugely alike as-is, but you can see the potential resemblance with a little movie magic.

Brandon Sklenar Joins Roland Emmerich’s ‘Midway’; Tanner Beard Cast In ‘We Summon The Darkness’

Brandon Sklenar has been cast in Midway, the Roland Emmerich-helmed WWII drama starring Woody Harrelson, Patrick Wilson, Ed Skrein, Aaron Eckhart, Luke Evans, Mandy Moore, Dennis Quaid, and Nick Jonas. Wes Tooke wrote the script for the film, which is based on the true story of the Battle of Midway, considered to be the turning point in the war against Japan in WWII. Sklenar will play George ‘Tex’ Gay Jr., who was the sole survivor of the 30-aircrew that participated in the pivotal Battle of Midway.

Ensign George Gay was shot down and watched the battle while floating in the ocean. He was in the water for a around a day with all the fighting going on around him. In the 1976 big name filled movie, actor Kevin Dobson from the TV series KOJAK and KNOT'S LANDING played the role.

Carpinello will play the supporting role of Captain Brockman, a gutsy, decisive and experienced Navy Submarine Captain.

Has that feel of Pearl Harbor with the marketing.

Guess a trailer is coming.

Is the 1976 film worth checking out?

Looks like they gave him a somewhat decent budget regarding costumes. The action sequences will be the test.

I can’t see this being any good judging by Emmerich’s track record. With that said, at least if it’s over the top cheese, we may be entertained ala some of Pearl Harbor.

Feels like Emmerich is channeling a bit of Michael Bay in this.

Or maybe it just feels that way since the opening shots of Pearl Harbor feel like they could be from that movie.

Dunno about the dramatic parts but the aerial action scenes look great.

It also looks very well lit & colorful for a World War movie doesn't it??

In any case, my man Roland Emmerich will show the British stalwarts (Nolan & Mendes) how to do an event movie based on world war :wowe:

WW2 has always been romanticized with the exception of R rated flicks and Nolan's Dunkirk. It was like the most recent example of a heroes vs. villains real life story we have to draw from.

I'm..... gonna need a moment or two alone, boys. :o
