Roland Emmerich to reboot Stargate

Well, it was one of his better films. At least it was one sci-fi action film by Emmerich that didn't involve destroying the world (although I guess it would have if Ra had succeeded in his plan). It might work, I don't know.

Yes, because Roland's Godzilla reboot worked out SO WELL. WE can look forward to a bajillion characters, the vast majority of whom get NO development or personality, a extremely uncomfortable attitude towards death, and plot holes galore.

Well, to be fair, he directed the original Stargate and I would hope that he understands what made that film work. This isn't a situation like Godzilla where he is taking over a property that he has no prior experience with.

Well I just knew a reboot was coming for stargate.

I think It's kind of stupid to have people who did original film to do reboot.Sorry but If your doing reboot people who did film or tv show that your now saying never happened shouldn't
be Involved.

Emmerich made Stargate but that doesn't mean he's any more suited to make more Stargate films than George Lucas is to make more Star Wars.

Really what does this franchise have to gain from a reboot?

While some enjoyed the first film It's tv show most remember. The TV show could almost have been called a reboot of film. And by Ignoring the entire TV franchise Is going to ailenate people who know Stargate.

Emmerich has been making disaster movies for years now.Him doing a scifi franchise doesn't
inspire much confidence.

It's his own franchise...why not just make another movie, why does it have to a reboot?

I quite enjoyed the spectacle of his two disaster films 2012and The Day After Tomorrow, but not so much his other films. The CGI in both of them was amazing!

Didn't realize this franchise went down the crapper, so much that it needs a reboot.

But did you actually 'liked' them? haha..

I've enjoyed bad movies too. Wouldn't be caught dead buying them though, but I would maybe catch them on FX if I'm bored. You know those types of movies.

If you read closely... "Roland Emmerich has confirmed that he intends to reboot the Stargate franchise as a new movie trilogy." This is in reality nothing new as he's been saying this since before Stargate was even a series although at the time it was a sequel instead. There was no confirmation MGM was going ahead and the last time he made noise on new Stargate nothing happened. His intention was also to ignore the three series that came and do a seperate continuity.

At the time I thought a stargate was going to pop up at the end of 10,000 BC. I love the tv shows, and they will still be there. I'm interested in seeing what Emmerich originally had planned for the series (assuming he is going back to his original trilogy plan).

Because it's hip and trendy to reboot.

At this rate, we're about a year and a half away from a reboot of Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn

i f.. loved watching the stargate movie in the 90's. funny entertaining characters and a good scifi story by using the pyramids and gods. and very good effects

a reboot will show modern effects and they will use Ancient Aliens as inspiration http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Aliens

Giorgio Tsoukalos will have a cameo.

i am so sick of reboots and there's only more coming.

what's hard is that a small part of me is interested, invested, wants to see what they'll be like. the rest of me wants to hurl.

If its a reboot I would prefer new people involved. Or continue the shows history

THIS IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL REBOOT, IT'S A MEANS TO AN END.

They are rebooting it so that they can continue with the trilogy. It's not just a reboot for the sake of having a reboot. They wanted to make a sequel when the original came out - a three film deal actually. Too many years have passed for them to do that. So they are issuing the first film again to get the audience reacquainted with it so they can fully launch into the sequels they always wanted. Different matter entirely here than your typical reboot - it's just a means to an ends in this case for it to BECOME the franchise they always wanted it to be.

Ultimate i think if they start with a sequel and make a unique story then they have a bigger chance with a profit. a reboot is a big risk for a bomb.

I think they should go with the plan they wanted, have planned, and spoken about since the 90s.

Here? Is it a shame that it needs to be rebooted? Yes. But, they see it as a technical necessity in order to reintroduce the masses to the world so that they can be familiar with all of the mythology and that the actors will be age (year apart from beginning) appropriate.

There hasn't been "too much time" between sequels. Sci-Fi properties should be about building worlds that last decades, not remaking one movie over and over. You just need to try to get the public caught up to speed a bit on the concept, and make a sequel that doesn't absolutely require that the viewer see the original first.

Personally, I would LOVE a Flash Gordon sequel done in a similar visual style of the first one (but updated), but I HATE the idea of a reboot.

Yeah, there would be too much time in between the sequels. On a creative level they wanted it to revolve around these characters. They wanted it to revolve around these couple of years in these characters lives - thus saying they can't go with the same actors because they're too old now. If you take these characters, and same actors mind you, you would naturally be setting the story ten years plus apart from the first story - that's a long time for their lives and everything to change. An area that they most likely wanted to explore and these characters would be at a different place than what they wanted. As said this is much more of a technical and creative necessity in their eyes rather than "reboot!" It's in order to tell the story they've always wanted to tell. Hey, fans might not like it - but more power to them for keeping true to their vision and for doing everything to ensure their original vision gets brought to life the way they wanted it to be.

So...they'd rather tell the same story over again, rather than tell the next chapter since it would be over a decade later. What if the reboot comes and doesn't do very well...then they'd need another reboot at some point so they could eventually make part 2, then another reboot, and another. All in a one hundred year quest to eventually make a part 2.

Or you could just say "hey, here's this same group of people, years later."
