Simple question.

Do you think the media is causing exaggerated reactions to the current economic situation and preventing the US from recovery?

I say yes

It is both Media AND the new Administration.

^No doubt about the current administration, but I think the media is causing the reactions of average people to be more severe than normal. Now because every TV and radio station has advised against spending people have stopped altogether and ground consumer spending to a halt. Making this recession almost a self fulfilling prophecy.

Someone watched 30 Rock on Thursday.

It is both Media AND the new Administration.

Actually it's the media, the current administration, the previous administration, the administration before that, and further back probably to the 1950's.

I agree, but the New Administration could be heroes and enact the FairTax, and all would be better.

Do I feel the media has a role in the performance of the Economy? Absolutely.

I am not going to insult anyone and I ask for anyone who reads this to keep an open mind and not feel offended.

As a whole my issue with the Economy situation is the usage of fear and the way they hype up the issue. Whenever the Economy starts to show signs of progress they remove the "Watching The Dow" marker off the screen, they never talk about it again, and go back to talking about or reporting non-newsworthy material.

But when it starts slowing down and they need to place fear in people then they start talking about Depressions, the world ending, and etc. There's nothing wrong with reporting facts and adding some insight, yet at the same, there's also a huge deal wrong with the way they report the news at the same time. When push comes to shove the media needs to learn when to back away from the issues at hand and let the people fix the economy.

Whether we want to admit it or not, the media plays a huge part in the way the market performs and the way people react. Sometimes I feel they should just remove news networks from wall street and let the people do their jobs. It's evident that the people on wall street live, breathe, and eat off the words from the government rather than them doing what needs to be done.

That's cause every time the government does anything they F things up. Why do you think the market re-acts negatively every time a politician gets up to speak on what they will do to "fix" the markets,

Well in some instances maybe government intervention is the way to go. However, with that said, they were in a situation where the big cats at Wall Street were calling for money and it was "damned if they did, damned if they didn't."

In the long run I believe the country will recover it's just going to take a good long while before we see significant progress. Until then I feel the media needs to stop talking about the economy and let people work, let people fix the economy, and stop promoting the agenda of fear. If a politician whether it's Obama or whoever, turn off the television station and don't let Wall Street be anywhere near a television.
